Azilut: Question for those who've played
"The Binding of Isaac" (currently on sale on Steam for $1.24) - I know very little about this game, and I'm wondering if it's strictly puerile gross-out humour, or if it manages to have a little more mood and heft to it. (In other words, is there anything to see here beyond just "OMG this would SO offend grandma"?)
Edit: Wow, don't know WHAT happened to my keyboard to cause that little mis-paste.
It is filled with juvenile grossout humor, and shit that would be seriously disturbing in a less cartoony graphic style. It IS by a person that has been doing shock-grossout humor for mor than a decade (Edmund McMillen). If you can't stand that, Isaac is not for you.
It is also the best worst made game on steam. It is shoddily made, in an outdated version of Flash, it is extremely unoptimized... And yet it is amazingly addictive, fun, and makes a decent use of the themes it has.
Gameplaywise, it is kind of what would happen if one mixed Robotron, Zelda and a roguelike. Levels are randomly generated with rooms being based on a set of templates, with randomized contents. WASD controls Isaac's movement, while the arrow keys control the direction of your only weapon: Your tears.
In the game you will get items that will have different effects on Isaac and his tears. It can get pretty gruesome.
I wholeheartedly recommend it, but I know it is not for everyone. But for a buck and a half, it is a no brainer. Hell, go for the two bucks and a half one, it includes the expansion pack, which adds a LOT to the game.
