A few ways to disable annoying gameux.dll (A Windows DRM service not GoG file)

gameux.dll causes the game to run twice and a bloaty second rundll.32
that hosts/enables the gameux.dll, it constantly polls the internet for
a connection every 2-4 seconds.

There are 2 of these files, find them in
C:\Windows\System32
and
C:\Windows\SysWOW64

WITH RENAME FILE TO DISABLE.
You can try deleting the .dll in the gameux.dll name but you may find that Trusted Installer owns the file and
even with admin access you cannot edit this. You can bypass this nuisance with the following...
First temporarily disable Windows Module Installer in services and startup options
Just run "services.msc" and "msconfig" in the windows run box, untick Windows Module
Installer in the startup tab in msconfig and set in services.msc to manual startup type.
This Trusted Installer service should not run anymore or protect gameux.dll
After restarting pc you can now go ahead and change the owner to you in properties/security/advanced
R click the file/rename and just delete the .dll on both files.
After doing this take ownership of gameux.dll trick and renaming both files turn
Windows Module Installer in startup on again
and also in services to automatic.

WITH FIREWALL/ANTI-VIRUS
Alternatively you may find that your anti-virus program has option to quarantine a file
which prevents it running just add C:\Windows\System32\gameux.dll and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\gameux.dll
to your list of blocked files.
If you also tell your firewall to block the file before doing this you will see just how many thousands of
times each file tries to connect to internet in a single gaming session and may also be causing your game
to crash or have fps lag spikes periodically. (In my case, Oblivion. Elder Scrolls IV)

WITH REGEDIT.

Trying to delete the registry sub keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameUX should work but is pointless as they self rewrite every time you run a non DRM game. (Digital Rights Management)

After renaming the files from gameux.dll to just gameux both files vanished and now the game runs smoothly on first click without the additional rundll32 and firewall has no mention of it trying to access internet anymore.

Open cmd.exe as administrator and run the following:

regsvr32 -u c:\windows\system32\gameux.dll
regsvr32 -u c:\windows\SysWOW64\gameux.dll

That should stop gameux from trying to intercept your games without you needing to delete the files

AMG where were you two hours ago! Hehe.
Can we do that even though we have no ownership of the file?
Trusted Installer overruled my administrator access permissions QQ.

Sure. Those commands don't actually affect the DLL files in any way, so no file permission is needed. All they do is unregister the DLLs so the OS stops trying to run them whenever you start up a game.

Hope it works for you.

14 January, to be specific. There are approximately 2 days left to do all your updates for Windows 7 before they become unavailable.

If you really want to stay on Windows 7 but also want to leave updates for later for some reason, WSUS Offline can help. It can download all the available updates onto a local repository instead of installing them, so in the future you'll be able to run updates without needing to connect to Microsoft.

Windows will continue to work even after support has ended. Of course, there will be no more fixes to newly discovered security problems in Windows 7, and developers won't keep making new software 7-compatible, so odds are you'll eventually need to change to something newer.
So I am unhappily on a Windows 10 system right now. Is it really not possible to copy past the nice registry changes into the command line?!?!!!! I tried right clicking and Ctrl + different letters, nothing.

Not for offline usage. Some people are still using their Commodore 64. They still work like they did in 1982. I'm pretty sure the C64 support ended a while ago.

Globalisation (internet/retro tech blogs/ebay, etc...) made it easier to keep using ancient hardware/software than ever before...

Keep using Windows 7 offline and run the software that was made for it. Maybe get something cheap for internet usage... it's not 1995 anymore.
Me, I wouldn't be afraid to keep using W7 online for many years to come - but I wouldn't advise that to the average "I click on anything" user. Seriously, do you replace you smartphone every 2 years (optimistically) because you don't receive any security updates anymore?
