I had a few GOG games installed on my computer but hadn't played them in a few months. I recently tried to play one and found that it would shutdown immediately after opening. No screen showed up or error dialogs. My mouse cursor just showed the busy cursor for 2 or 3 seconds and that was it. I found the problem and figured I'd share my fix in case it helps anyone else.

The game in question was Spelunky.

My specs are:
Windows 8.1
Intel Core i5-4590
16 GB RAM
Intel HD Graphics 4600

I looked at my task manager and saw that the process showed up for a couple of seconds and then disappeared.

I had a few games installed through GOG, and I tried them all. Here are the results:

La Mulana - Didn't work
Myst Uru Complete Chronicles - Didn't work
Race Driver GRID - Worked
Spelunky - Didn't work
Terraria - Didn't work
Treasure Adventure Game - Worked

It affected multiple games, so it wasn't just a problem with one game. It took a while, but I found out what the culprit was (though I don't know why exactly).

The problem was the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" setting. To get to it, right click the executable (.exe file) for the game and select Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab. Towards the bottom is the checkbox. If it is grayed out, click the "Change settings for all users" button. Once I disabled that checkbox, the games worked.

The weird thing is that a couple of months ago, all the games worked. I haven't changed my Windows other than install updates. I haven't purposely updated the game files, though GOG might have done it for me. I also haven't changed any hardware. My best guess is that GOG Galaxy set those values or a Windows update broke something.

Hmm, you could try reinstalling the non-working games and see if this fixes your problem without having to manually edit the executable. If it doesn't, I would advise you to share your information with support.
I am sorry I do not have an answer. If you go here:

http://www.gog.com/support

There will be a list of games you own below.

Look to the game you referenced. There may or may not be support articles. If not, click on the game, and there may be answers there.

OR

Click on the same link, then, look for the CONTACT US icon on the right. Click that, and that will contact GOG (note: They do not work Saturday and Sunday).

Hope this helps.
Thanks for your replies, however I did fix the problem as stated in my first post, so I'm not looking for further support.

The reason I posted was because I searched the forums extensively (both game specific and general) and did not find anyone else with this solution. I posted in the hope that this may help someone else who might be having similar problems.
Thk u 4 ur post, even though I do not own the games u mentioned but I'm sure it wld be helpful 2 those who encounter the same prob as u earlier. :)
