MobiusArcher: Sorry. I couldn't resist. You set it up so perfectly.
No need to be sorry.... it was funny.

DreamedArtist: Might be for a long, long time. I have a feeling we will see windows become free someday and adopt the apple model.
What is the Apple model, where do they get their income from?

jeeves01: I just did an update...Windows 10 1803...and now the games i have with GOG are crashing after only a minute or two. Steam games appear to be OK.
Anyone have any ideas?
Did you try to re-install video driver?
avatar
rtcvb32: There will still be drivers for a while that allow you to use newer/older/current hardware. But you could always be a little picky i suppose.

Reminds me... i have a webcam from 2005. Says it won't work on Windows 7. I extract the vista drivers, manually install it, and it works... Hmmm... :P

As for security, with Vault 7 and the like, the only security you can fully ensure is if you aren't hooked on the internet...

Or you could go with GNU/Linux, but then again that doesn't lead well to hardware either, only security to some degree.

Truthfully i just don't trust Microsoft as far as i can throw them.
Man, you do really have dangerous, and nasty opinions! Careful, you might endanger yourself :-P

Seriously though, I hope the forced updates on Win10 makes people jump faster over to GNU/Linux.

Do you even know what the Apple model is/are? Apple is religiously fanatical sect, kinda like being a brainwashed "scientologist", compared to MS. Apples now dead god was a heinous fascist.

Since the last Win 10 update, some Unity games have become more unstable too. Not too unstable to play, but for example Pillars of Eternity crashes from time to time.

Also I had to re-install Avira, because it thought that Windows is a virus...
I can't say I've run into any issues since this latest update. *shrug*

Sounds about right. ;)

Yes I do, and we are not talking about that. we are talking about the OS is free and has been for years for me and my apple mac pro machine.
here is one little article, I am too lazy to argue but yeah it's been free and what is wrong with that? lol

I get it now: Apple can give away the OS because the hardware is theirs and they profit from selling the computer itself. For Windows it' s completely different: Microsoft earns it's money from just the OS, so they can' t give it away with desktops, the hardware is sold by Intel, AMD, Samsung Kingston, Corsair, ASUS, Gigabyte, HP, Dell, etc. etc.

There is ways to give the OS for free, if you grab windows 10 you can strip a lot of shit out of the OS and you can make a free version out of it. and have extra stuff for download like shadow copy, server stuff or whatnot you know?

but yeah I know apple can throw it for free but windows needs to get on something like that and make an actual free version for people. it would really put a dent in Linux and eat some off of apple if they can nail it right.

Pfft. You say that like Windows wasn't the dominant OS now and for the foreseeable future.

Fairfox: is win10 last version of windows?

Look, we got those transforming updates like apple gives out so my guess is the free OS thing might happen in 5 or so years. beats me but I hope it does happen.
Wait how does Apple do it? Do you get the OS pre-installed on any Mac you buy, and then it's guaranteed to be updated? I know nothing about Apple's business practices. I think I heard that there are multiple versions of the OS. Something called Leopard and Lion.

EDIT: Sorry about that I should have kept reading the thread, up until you linked that article.

That is such a dad thing to say. :P

not sure but I installed new SSD's to my pro and somehow when I turned it on it told me to put my apple ID and boom started installing the new OS, I have no idea what kind of magic they do but it's really nice to not have to deal with making partitions or having the need to make a usb stick with it on. they do it all for you lol.

windows 10 contains spyware, speficaly cortana reports what you do online hence why you get more specific advertisments for your location instead of national ones. all antiviruses see at least one rootkit in the system file. unfortunatly all OS's are suseptable to attack but without them we can't play games, would love to see an OS that no one can crack that knows when your playing a game automaticaly shutes down stupid stuff like updates so your not drug out of the game to desktop for no appaent reason.
