GOG users are really strange.

tinyE: If aliens had/have the capability to get here, even if we had defenses we'd be toast. :P We can't match up with that tech and I can't imagine we would 500 years from now.

Breja: Are you saying Independence Day lied to me?
Interestingly enough, the aliens in that movie succumb to a virus just like War of the Worlds.

I always thought that was a deliberate callback.

Sometimes it seems that GOG users don't actually want to discuss games. It really does seem like that sometimes.

For example:

Some time ago I posted a topic on the Baldur's Gate sub-forum about the magic system, and the first reply was somebody who didn't think it should be discussed.

I also saw a party advice topic on the Icewind Dale subforum where someone posted something to the effect of "make your own party; don't ask for advice" (I don't remember the exact thing that user said).

Then there's the fact that, on game specific forums, technical questions seem to be a lot more common than game related topics. I would like to see more discussion on the sub-forums about the actual games! (The Elder Scrolls series sub-forum could you some love, for example; we need more discussion about the early games in that series!)

I think I, at least once, have had a gameplay discussion on the General forum be low rated.

Edit: I'm thinking of posting some of the positive effects that gaming can have.

muntdefems: Ten? I remember arguments with my parents and some of my friends' parents from nearly 25 years ago about this issue after they read some alarming newspaper article about how dangerous those computer games were.

TARFU: 1992 and the debate around Mortal Kombat perhaps? That brings back memories.
Or D&D?

Nelko_Lazar: Hmm, makes you wonder when they'll finally make Internet Addiction Disorder official.

Oh yeah. That'll make 'em insurance companies scream.
Appears that they have done studies on it:

tinyE: Far out, you thought of one.

Fair play to HereForTheBeer!

HereForTheBeer: There's probably some Twilight Zone episode or The Outer Limits or something like that which shows how too much peace would be a bad thing.
There's a Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episode like that. The one with the cursed monkey paw I believe : Treehouse of Horror II

Yeah, I remember the D&D outrage/panic from the 80s, but 25 years ago would have been the whole Mortal Kombat affair. New decade, new manufactured BS? I will say that this (2010-2020) decade's "outrage" (lootboxes) actually seems to be legit. Or maybe it's just my age and I'm becoming "old man yells at cloud"?

Actualy, it was the Nuclear missle combined with a computer virus that led to their defeat in ID
in War it was because they were harvesting human blood and not used to human base viruses
Will my Dr officially give me time off cause I have a gaming disorder? Finally I'll have more time to work through my backlog of games
interesting information

Of course someone's going to say Gaming is a disease, we all know Diseases need to be cured, as curing them brings proffits.... with 1.8 Billion gamers and a multiple BILLION dollar proffit why not leech into that by saying "buy this BLA BLA" and cure your addiction. this a way for the nongamers to say "LOOK those deviants are addicted!!!"
Gambling IS a disease but that isn't from the game itself, it's from the high, and lows, call them extremes, you get with money involved. Actual betting rarely takes place with someone playing Doom. :P

Casino gaming and video gaming are totally different things.

And lootboxes are the demonspawn of the two types of gaming...
