NovumZ: I wrote a positive review for no man's sky which I still like and can play the base game but can't NEXT because it requires VCredist 2017
So who made No Man's Sky require VCredist 2017, Satya Nadella?

I don't even know who that is but I'm guessing proxy ms ceo?
Windows 10 with a subscription for the regular public will spell disaster for sure and Microsoft knows it. if anything the only version of windows I can see it effecting for public is the "PRO" edition. Home wont be effected I bet. unless they charge you for large updates like creators updates...

NovumZ: Thanks Serren for the link.
- I was just in disbelief yesterday and mentally exhausted of what is about to come of my and others hard earned hobby.

GR00T: Well, as long as you have your GOG backups and keep your old rig(s), you'll be able to play your games.

As for the future, it's all going the way of on-line/streaming (movies, tv, gaming, etc) There will come a time where you own nothing with respect to entertainment and will rent it all. Total control for the content creators, content providers, and the big companies (Apple, Microsoft, etc) that enable you to view it. Not exactly a world I look forward to, but I feel it's inevitable. Until that time though, I'll enjoy my entertainment the way I want. If that time comes to pass before I pass on, I'll likely not be watching new tv/movies or gaming much, but I'll still have my backups and my physical copies to enjoy.
But Groot. We must resist this Oligarchy. Microsoft did not pay for components in our computers it belongs to us! The way windows 10 operates is utterly ridiculous! If they pay for our hardware then I might be somehow ok with Limited telemetry and key-loggers aka: spying on everything you do on your computer.

I'm Groot!

Do windows 10 users have to be connected to the internet at all times? Or you don't need internet for windows 10 to operate in our computers?

Windows 10 at least needs the internet for the updates and once you finish the updates you can stay offline forever. never bugs you for going online. I once had my pc offline for 5 months and got no message about having to be connected

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a form of Office on a subscription plan?
Honestly I see most businesses going subscription based in the future.

Only if they're too ignorant to go open source -- and many of them are.

Why not be creative and put up some home made traps like in metal gear solid 3? I am sure that kid will love them.

NovumZ: InkPanther. It's frustration at the direction PC gaming is going.

I honestly don't know what will happen to DRM-Free gaming post win7
Not just PC. I have been told that consoles will move towards subscriptions (game running on servers online), so "gaming as a service"-like. Well, not on my money!

I'm starting to feel like a digital survivalist. You know those guys that believe that "the government is going after us" and stock up on supplies and weapons and all? They don't seem as much as nutcases.

i'm curious how disastrous this turns out to be. We learned from no-ip.com that MS is willing to do really stupid things incredibly boldly.

But the real kicker is: most people won't hate it for the reasons we think they will. They'll hate it for when things break and they get sick of monthly "computer bills" in addition to "the internet bill" and cancel one to find out everything quits working. It's going to be an absolutely fantastic mess.

Funny you mention this; I'm currently downloading my whole game library. :D
