Go to your library via a browser (like Chrome or Firefox) and not through the Galaxy client. There, select Crashlands and you should see a button called "More". Click it and it should bring up a drop-down menu with several choices. Select "Serial keys" and you should be good to go.

If you to your games, click at the game to see the downloadable files there is a menu that says "More" neext to the blue box that says "Try GOG Galaxy". Click on "More". Does it give you an option that says "Serial keys"?

Why a key is required for cloud saves?

Because the game was released months before GOG implemented cloud saving.
