Can someone give me a suggestion as to what type and make of playstation type controller works best on Galaxy with games like Carmageddon and Tomb Raider

Logitech F310. It looks a lot like the Playstation controller. I'm personally pretty happy about it.
Logitech F710 offers both X-input and D-input modes

Old games were designed to work with D-input game pads
if they had support out of the box

I bought a lifetime subscription to Pinnacle Profiler to map those that don't

Only complaint I have about F710, even though it's the only one I'll bother to use,
is that it's a headache to install properly especailly if you're trying to install two of them

Since MS encourages MS brand they don't make it very user friendly for other controllers

Also F710 has made the R2 and L2 triggers analogue for those who like driving and flight sims
but some some indie developers don't have enough skill (ie Vostok, Blacksea Odyssey) to make exception and only know how to apply the default template for Xbox gamepads which don't host the analogue feature
This usually results in neither trigger working and the right analogue stick's X and Y axis swapped

this is what I have. Love it, though I can't imagine trying to play Tomb Raider with a controller.
If you have Bluetooth dongle/receiver you can use real ps3 or PS4 controller
Personally i love the actual PS2 controller. With a USB converter it works fine in games that recognize it, alas most windows games give you the 360 buttons, or they give you BUTTON 1-16. which tells you nothing.
some game require direct-input or old style. some games require x-input or new style. xbox one controller is really good for x-input. when looking for direct-input, try to avoid rubber based controllers. for some reason they just start to become sticky for unknown reasons. even old phones to be honest. you just leave them in storage and they turn like glue.

I still have my old Samsung E730 mobile phone and it is all sticky now. I can not even leave it on a desk, because dust glues to its plastic. It was a premium device at the time.
I use this both for ps3/pc

Love the optical wheel
I'm using a 8Bitdo SFC30 Pro gamepad.

It's a lot better than the F310 in many aspects, and has a better quality feel to it too.
That's kinda cool but I'd miss the extra two trigger buttons

Extra trigger? There's a L2/R2.

Ah, I couldn't see those in the picture...maybe they were hidden on the underside of the gamepad

Like how they snapped analogues on a SNES game pad

Well, they're behind the traditional L/R. The bottom is nice and free of any obstacles.
Thank you all who replied, problem solved mostly, will be trying them out next week.
