So, I installed 5 games tonight, via Galaxy. Task Force Centauri, D _ The Game, I have no Mouth and I must scream, Strife the veteran Edition and Noctropolis. Needless to say, I chose to install associated documentation as well.

The problem is there are no manuals, etc in any of the game folders! And for the life of me I cannot see where they HAVE been installed to!

While looking I found a Jade Empire manual from an install ages ago sitting on it's own with it's readme in C:\ProgramData\GOG.com!

So can somebody tell me where the heck Galaxy installs associated documentation, because it sure as hell ain't in the install folder of the games!
If you check out the settings (clicking on the gog symbol above your installed games list), you should see what folders are specified for the normal downloads and the extras.
Stupid question but did you look in the Start menu? I have no clue if they'd be there but I'm trying to eliminate possibilities here. :P

BTW, you have GREAT taste!

Your right, for some reason Galaxy installs all documentation to C:\Program File (x86)\Galaxy Client\Games\!Downloads!

Why the heck it can't install to the damn game folder, I do not know. It just means me wasting time copying and pasting to the games folder!

Thanks for trying to help moonshineshadow had the answer, but I appreciate the helpful attitude. Thanks for the games compliment - as least you can see I have wide ranging tastes in games! :)

Yep, it is really annoying. Hopefully they'll change it in the future.

I guess that your "C:\Program File (x86)\Galaxy Client\Games\!Downloads!" is just your extras folder, that you can configure in the settings?

Besides downloading the manuals as extras, I get manuals downloaded to each game folder, and then you can open them from Galaxy itself. You access manuals and other documentation by clicking the big "More" button next to "Play", then "Other". Please see the attached image. You can't do that for any of your games?

Some games include their manual with the game itself which gets installed with the game and appears on the 'Other' menu if the publisher decides to do it that way presumably. Other games do not automatically install a manual as part of the game installation and include it as a bonus extra instead, in which case it isn't installed at all but is just a bonus download, so you'll only have it if you manually download it through the Bonus Extras page, and then it will end up wherever you have Galaxy configured to store manual downloads. If you're not sure where that is, go into Galaxy settings and it will show you where the directory is, and you can reconfigure it if you wish.

Having said that, I agree that it would be much more useful if either the publishers or GOG themselves would make all game manuals get installed by default as a part of the installation process, and put a menu entry on the Galaxy 'Other' menu as a matter of customer convenience and improved user-friendliness. It wouldn't hurt to potentially include optional strategy guides, maps and/or other extras in a friendly manner like this as well, however they'd have to likely move some of the bonus extras from being extras to just being included directly in the main game installer if they chose to do that.

As nice as that'd be though, it'd probably be very low priority for GOG for quite some time as they've got their hands pretty full with much bigger features etc. so I wouldn't hold my breath any time soon. :)

It's not applicable to all games.

Yet other games (like Book of Unwritten Tales: Critter Chronicles, Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition and Rise of the Triad 2013) will not have the manual as part of the extras, but lo and behold, it will be installed along with the game.

Uh... Based on the few games I've actually played, I had assumed that if a game had a manual downloadable as extra, it was also available in Galaxy. Now I've checked and it turns out it's 30 out of 31 of my games (not counting the ones that don't have a manual even as an extra), so I'd think that GOG actually takes care to make manuals available through Galaxy, and that that only game (Stronghold HD) is an oversight/bug on their part.

You guys with a sample size an order of magnitude bigger than mine, have many games with downloadable manuals *not* available through Galaxy? In that case I've been extremely lucky with my purchases so far :))

(By the way, I install all my games via Galaxy. Maybe that's different from standalone installers?)

Can't speak with any actual numbers/percentage (since I don't pay attention to this all that much) but, yes, there have been games scattered here and there that don't install the manual, even though they have one as part of the extras (some of them have been games that had a manual added afterwards to the extras like the aforementioned D: The Game).

I don't think so.
