I always have welcomed cool features such as the Galaxy cloud storage support, but initially disabled it when it first came out in order to avoid any potential bugs it might contain from destroying save games. Over time the software matured to the point where it has been fairly stable for a while now and it makes the most sense for me to go ahead and leave that feature enabled by default and/or disable it on a game by game basis as desired for whatever potential reasons.

Having said that, there are some games where I did not enable it and it would be optimal now to have cloud saves available for my laptop. I do however have a minor concern, which is that I've previously played a game on my desktop with cloud saves disabled, and now have played it on my laptop with cloud saves enabled. I now want to turn cloud saves on on my desktop which contains older save games of a different game play, and have those save games made available to my laptop which already has its newer save games in the cloud.

The problem I wish to avoid and am curious about, is whether the older save games on my desktop will be ignored by the cloud save mechanism due to the newer saves available on my laptop in the cloud already, and secondly whether enabling cloud saves on the desktop will cause the laptops cloud saves to overwrite and delete the saves on my desktop or not?

Obviously I'm going to be careful to back up the savegames I am concerned about first either way, but I'm curious if anyone knows whether I should expect any problems enabling cloud saves on the older installation on the desktop or not?

Worst case if I do encounter any problems or lose save games, I can simply restore the manual backups on both computers and update the file timestamps on both of them to be current, then let cloud sync update the cloud copy which in theory should force the save games I want to be the most recent in the cloud, and available to multiple computers, but if it will all just work magically the way I want from the start, then my concerns may be in vain. :)

Just being cautious with my valuable data. :)

The game in question in this case is Stardew Valley, but similar thoughts are a concern for any other games as well.

Galaxy will always ask you if it's not sure - which saves are the ones that you want to use - ones on local machine, or ones on the server.
Even if the files are exactly the same, but Galaxy for some reason lost the track (you removed local database, save was bumped to the server from another machine) - it will ask you what to do.

Also, if you ignore the conflict, it will not upload or download anything, just letting you play. You'll see the conflict next time when trying to play.

Ok, thanks Johny! Much appreciated! I'm going to enable sync on the other computer shortly and try it out now. I used sync before of course, but not between 2 computers.

Another thing I'm wondering now, which isn't Galaxy specific nor game specific mind you, is how games handle it when you sync configuration between computers with different video hardware setup/resolution etc. or if that even goes into the cloud. Will find out shortly hehe.

That really depends what the game shares through "the cloud". It's defined per game. I wouldn't expect video settings to be shared.
