Darvond: I do happen to take umbrage with some of the language used in some of these titles. The rest are garbage for the normal reasons.

I realize Otoko No Ko doesn't exactly roll off the tongue and is contextual but it would get across the idea of the crossdressing femboy aspect without the implications of trap.

Further thoughts: Rabbit Burn looks like garbage, and I'm surprised they let that kind of texture quality onto the game.

Otoko No Ko Legend is dangerously approaching the lower end of the pool where the kids are playing. Chris Hansen would like a word with whoever approved this game for sale.

Otoko No Ko Mega Drive: Well, it has better art that the previous title, but I can't exactly tell if this is nothing but cheesecake pinups.

Shrine Maidens, but they're boys: What else needs to be said? It's kind of obvious.

Seed of the Dead: Anime girl zombie shooter. The worst of all worlds, your ugly gritty western shooter combined with the obnoxious sparkling of anime. I can only offer a sarcastic slow clap.

Frostyfirefly: For about three decades, I've seen plenty of church going "I will never masturbate to porn" people that commit pretty disturbing sexual crimes. And I've seen plenty of people that enjoy porn, that have families, and are some of the coolest people I've met.

It seems there is also a misconception here, that people who consume porn, do not have mates, and when they do get a girlfriend, boyfriend, etc., they will suddently stop purchasing erotic games. There are those of us who enjoy roleplaying the scenes in these games with our mates, what is wrong with that if no one gets hurt? :-/
avatar
Darvond: There's also people like me who enjoy porn freely, and would be open to enjoying it with a partner, but feel that these items fall below an obvious quality barrier. In a world where Dross, Zackary911, r-mk, whisperfoot, Braeburned, and other artists exist and there's massive archives of their works online, why should I have to datamine a visual novel to see pictures of lads and ladies?
Rabbit Burn is fun and addictive as hell and I will not tolerate that level of Blasphemy in this hentai temple, sir. Also, your nostalgia glasses are definitely showing here as well as your age.

The trap games - You just said I don't get the moe art style and everyone who likes it is a pedophile, including the culture that produced it and the people who enjoy it. This is also why Hansen never did a show with a fan of this kind of material, because he knows they would sue the living shit out of him and it would go viral in the anime community starting a shitstorm in which millions of weebs would be outside the courtroom along with counter protestors. You'd even end up with publishers and maybe even the Japanese companies themselves getting involved. Moe has been a style in Japan for a long time. Also, the people who call weebs out for it are the people who get arrested for the real thing.

Seed Of The Dead is LFD with anime girls and guns and it is a fun game. Not everything has to be your level of quality. Just listening to your pretentious rambling is enough to make me ill. You sound like the voice Yellow Flash uses when he mocks people on Twitter. Really stuck up and pretentious. How about not showing us your degree and talking like a normal person. I'm well read, I'm studied. I've sat through pretentious books, comics, visual novels, some people write like you speak in this industry and it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. You talk like you should be wearing a top hat and a monocle.

"That is to say, I found it rather quaint and perfunctory."

It's like I have to open a thesaurus to understand what you're saying. There's no sense in that. I am not about to kiss your feet and marvel at how intellectual you are.

And no, many of those PC98 titles had horrible translation. You think it's bad now? Oh, man. The sex scenes in dividead were made up on the fly. And the music? I do love a good midi, and I will say that I love my 90's anime art style. But I love hearing full CD Quality audio and voice acting.

Also, let us get one thing straight. You are not a part of the modern anime community. If you were, you would know the memes around traps, the fans of traps and why there's the whole "traps aren't gay" argument. A server I frequented prattled on about it every day.

And let me be brutally honest with you, mate. There's no chance in hell of those old PC98 titles being localized. None of the companies care to work on them. The only classics we have which have been remastered are Do You Like Horny Bunnies 1&2, X-Change series and The Sagara Family. Also Dokyusei Banging Summer was remade from the ground up, keeping the original 90's art style albeit with modern graphics and features. If you know your dating sims, then you know this is the grandaddy of them all.

As for the original? Nah, you are never gonna see it. Just get the PC98's off an abandonware site. It will be easier to get No One Lives Forever licensed than it would be for those old PC98 titles.

In fact, Kitty Media is now owned by Fakku, which has been sitting on all their titles for over a decade with no plans to release or remaster Bible Black, Discipline, Heartwork and many of their other titles. That right there should tell you how much the industry cares about bringing these old adult games back.

milkymylk: Thank you for the releases! Especially the Trap Shrine series. I enjoyed my time with those, they're actually quite comfy. :>

I didn't expect GOG to release non-hetero or non-yuri titles though, so I'm extra pleased!
GOG, please consider bringing some BL/gay/male x male eroge here too:
- JAST has some high quality titles by Nitro+'s side brand, such as "Dramatical Murder", "sweet pool", and "Togainu no Chi"
- Mangagamer also carries high quality titles: "Hashihime of the Old Book Town", "UuultraC", "Room No. 9", and others

Heck, while you're at it, bring us some female-oriented titles as well please:
- Mangagamer's "Fxxx Me Royally!", "Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome", "Steam Prison" and "Ozmafia" (the latter two are without erotic content)

---

In regards to the types of people who enjoy these games and having partners:
I'm a married woman, and it was I who brought up that I enjoy erotic content and want to be able to openly consume it, without having to sneak around or be ashamed. We don't "enjoy" the content together, mainly because my tastes in eroge aren't his jam. Nothing to do with jealousy.
And I would never want to roleplay any of the content anyway, even the vanilla stuff. Because to me that would cheapen the story/characters I've come to adore, and reduce them down to mere fap material.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter which of us enjoys what kind of content - it has zero bearing on our interactions, relationship satisfaction, or real world tastes/interests.
Not sure if most couples are like this or not, but I think it's becoming more acceptable for people to talk about this kind of thing with their partners, at least. So yay, progress. :)

---

There also seems to be a misunderstanding about why people enjoy these kinds of games. I often see people bring up "if I want to fap, there are millions of hentai/real porn sites out there"... but these are all different options for different desires.

Personally, I like to think of erotic content in Japanese games as "officially created R34". People who play eroge are often doing so because they're interested in the characters themselves (not just how they look or the fact they're being sexy or whatever), so they want to see those specific characters doing more than what the plot dictates. Which means they're not after some 'wham bam thank you ma'am' random porno, or one-off sexy images intended as fap material - both of which involve non-characters.
I mean, that's a big part of why the R34 side of any fandom exists. People fall in love with (or find themselves attracted to pairings of) characters, to the point they go looking for fanfic and fanart that lets them explore 'that side of things'. It just so happens that Japan has a culture where the original creators themselves are so board with it, they feel it's fine to include it in the source material. Or craft an entire story around getting to 'those' moments.

Then there are games where the erotic content is part of the plot - stories that literally cannot be told in any other format, without its erotic content. The sex isn't just there for the hell of it, but to tell a specific story, one that can't be told via live action porn or communicated within even a fap-material image set. The medium also lets you play with some pretty out-there 'what if' scenarios because they're fictional. I think that's the best part about it.

Aaaand then there are games where erotic content is there just for kicks, maybe because it's cheeky or not something you normally get to see in our every day, straight-laced lives. Games like HuniePop, and I assume those Seed of the Dead games. And hey, why not have fun the way you want in your spare time? Again, it's all just as made up as any other game, so whatever floats your boat. ;)
I'll talk to Jast. They love their BL titles. Also, thanks for that perspective. But in a way, aren't these kinda like interactive harlequin romance novels? I get the same feeling when I play them and it hit me - oh damn, this is basically a harlequin romance! I told myself I wouldn't get into these and here I am reading them live and getting into the stories, the characters and the steamy scenes.

Oh, yes please, if you can! I tried asking years ago (before the JAST-GOG publishing deal) and there didn't seem to be any interest on either side. Then again, there didn't seem to be any interest because GOG was being a stick in the mud about adult content back then...

And hahaha yes, I can see the similarities, good call! I'm not really into harlequin novels personally (maybe because I don't see any getting recommended?), NSFW fanfic was always my jam though.
These days, I'm comfy enough delving into the eroge sphere that I don't really want for much else, other than regular games. There's a lot else about VNs/eroge I appreciate more than regular books too - the VN medium itself and the things you can do with it, the art, music, voice acting... So good. :D

WinterSnowfall: GOG should really implement a per-user adult content filter to appease the prudes :P.

MarkoH01: Agreed but unfortunately GOG also seems to have problems tagging their games correctly. "State of Mind" i.e. is tagged with "sexual content" - I played the game and cannot remember it having anything that could be called "sexual content". So in this case games like that would be hidden from the user who only prefered to not see the explicit games.
We are using databases to apply the tags on each game and it has been flagged as containing mature content with a warning:
This Game may contain content not appropriate for all ages, or may not be appropriate for viewing at work: Nudity or Sexual Content, General Mature Content
Therefore, this is correct.

I don't understand some people. I personally don't ''play'' erotic visual novels(not enough gameplay, that's one of the reasons i don't like Telltale Games too) but i'm always happy when new games get added DRM free to the store. There are already plenty of other games that feature erotic/romance/nudity scenes. I don't remember people being here spamming the dislike button on posts when games like METRO, The Witcher 3, Dragon Age: Origins. Divinity:Dragon Commander, Divinity: Original Sin, Baldur's Gate 3 or Cyberpunk 2077 were coming out. Each of those games features suggestive themes/nudity and/or erotic scenes.

Not all types of games are for everyone. Why can't people understand that different people enjoy different videogames? You enjoy the games you enjoy and let other people enjoy the games they like. If they like anime tits and choose your adventure gameplay let them enjoy it.

Before you downvote my comment read it carefully. Maybe consider an upvote?

SmollestLight: I totally understand that not every game will suit everyone's liking and that's completely fine :) Sorry to hear you don't enjoy any of the current releases but hopefully all of you will find a title you like sooner rather than later!

We're doing our best to secure more releases and always welcome any constructive discussions about them, of course.
I dont think you shoud listen too much to the critics in this case, Those people have double standards
They are fine with voilence but apperantly adult rated games with steame sceenes makes them freak out

Have you been living in a cave somewhere? Some people here will complain about regular games getting released here because they don't deem them quality in their eyes. There has been arguments over the whole curated bullshit and their so-called fake sets of standards on GOG. They will complain about everything except that their so-called quality games barely get updated here after release.

Recently kalypso media, woke publisher but doesn't bother enforcing to update the games they publish here, which leaves them with game breaking bugs.

Jesus, Eroge is a bit of a NSFW word to be putting in a thread title.

Alright, I'll keep it civil. But there is something I have noticed here and I'm sure your colleagues have as well. The entire post voting system was probably useful a couple of years back or so, but as you've seen from posts, it's being abused to the point of being a joke. I've even stated for people to downvote every comment I post just to show how much of a joke it is. And while some people have opinions others won't like, I have seen downvotes on people asking questions about games or even thanking you for getting certain games in. I honestly think people are spamming the votes. I don't know that much about programming, but how difficult would it be decode out this feature? Or rather just replace it with a "hide post" option. We may very well be long past the days where people get reputation points naturally, because there are so many people spamming what I'm sure even your staff notices are pretty normal posts. The voting system is one thing, but when we see normal posts which don't even contain an opinion like "thanks GOG for bringing these DRM free titles here" getting a downvote, it very well might be time to junk the whole thing.

If anything, thanking a company that specializes in DRM-Free content for bringing more of it here should never be a downvote worthy offense, regardless of what that content entails. I'm sure the voting system was once a good option, but obviously, and as many people here on the forum have noticed, it no longer is.

I get that, and the publisher is welcome to name themselves that way but it still doesn't make it a good idea to put the name in a thread title.

Just to be clear, I have no issue with such games being sold here, I just care about not having something NSFW appear on my screen without warning. I don't want to have to browse the forums while looking over my shoulder, you know?

Are you kidding me?
Take a look here - this is NOT against coc? Well, it must be without problems since I PM'd you about it yet I fail to see any post of you there - in fact the absence of mods made the user troll even more. The user is insulting me AND my country and others ... but all is fine to the mods of GOG. And now I will probably be banned because I posted this openly in the forum because I was completely ignored in PMs - well, feel ree to ban me if this is your desire.
