AlienMind: Lucky, he would have ruined the trilogy by making it about aliens.

LOL. The community here is so toxic you get low rated by informing them about a free game. And here I go again for a year or so. So long suckers.

falloutttt: what if there was no rep-system ? imagine all those poor "rep-downers" with absolutely nothing to do in life. that'd just be sad :(
It was suggested and wished upon, but alas it was a change never mind. Which is a shame, it's abused so often it makes the whole thing redundant.

As for not wanting people to post about other platforms...come on. Stop it :P

moobot83: no thanks il stick with GOG, steam and epic are scumbags who dnt care about users of GOG why posts aobut them are allowed here is beyond me, this is a forum for GOG, not to adverrtise other companys free shit
Most companies care more about profit than people and many do stuff people would dislike somewhat/more or find shady.....one can either stop buying altogether and become a hermit or buy stuff anyways, as buying stuff from one company is often nearly as bad as buying from another(and in some case you ARE buying from the same company as a handful of parent companies own a ton of brand names).

Also it's not that great of advertising attempts(such posts) as many likely know about such sites already and not many read such threads.

(And to be fair I bet some here who dislike steam or epic go to other sites or places where said user base hang out or post to try luring them here)

This.....not everyone has a ton of money(myself included).

Some here see pirating in many cases as bad & also see buying from steam/epic as bad....but if they want people to buy legally then sometimes people have to go to stores they dislike to do so, else they might choose to pirate(and some don't want that).

Tbh(if I may speak freely) this is worded a bit rude, but I was going to say similar....supernatural being fine while aliens being the deal breaker(for some like the one you replied to) makes little sense.

joppo: Dammit, I missed Shadow Tactics Blades of Shogun. I've been interested in it and, while I still rather get it on Gog (and eventually will), wouldn't mind adding it to my Epic freebie retrieval account.

I still need to get to setting up a clean virtual machine where I can install their launcher, download the games and scrap the VM afterwards, but that's another issue entirely.
It's a great game. Reminds me of the old Commandos games. Very hard game to play, but so much fun. Beautiful, great music, excellent voice-acting, etc... Just superb game that you wont find anything similar today!

It doesn't need to be removed completely. Just adding a feature like being able to see who rated your post, would, I think eliminate the problem of so many negative-reps. I could be wrong, but worth a try.

It does look good indeed, and all I hear about it makes me want to put in the cart. I'm just not in the right moment "financially" (more precisely, I'm hoping my country's currency will rise to a decent value before I drop some cash).

I think this way you might solve a problem by introducing a similar or even worse problem.

What would be the problem of knowing who rated what? It would keep some more "honest", I would think, and other forums use that same feature to good effect.

Basically, because it would be fuel for A LOT of drama from people so inclined. Imagine if you couldn't simply downvote someone because that person throws a shitstorm every time someone downvotes them. Imagine that person going after posts from you only to downvote them back, regardless of their content, just as a form of "retribution" (actually petty revenge).

The way things are now, even if the same people are downvoted, their "enemy" has no face. No one to aim an angry tantrum at. (I'm not saying those are the only ones being downvoted by abuse now, mind you)

Besides, what would you do if you knew that AltAccount1, AltAccount2 and AltAccount3 are the ones abusing the downvote button? Suppose the person who decided that you deserved negative rep is called "Mr.Shitface". Do you think Mr.Shitface would be downvoting you directly instead of keeping their distance while resorting to all these alts?

Yeah... now that I think about it, this measure wouldn't really solve a problem while adding a new one. It would only stifle the correct use of downvotes, but would do nothing to deter those who abuse the system.

We already have a bad enough system in place that leads to problems.....to me the positives would outweigh the negatives. Also if some did as you said the mods could tell and take care of it(as per the rules against such behavior), thus dissuading some if not most of it.

I'd report those blanket low rating, of course, and let Gog handle it(as it is against the rules to do such).

Also iirc Gog knows which IP each account comes from so they could at least warn/ban the alts doing such and the main accounts as well if the one doing it used the same IP each time.

On both points we will have to agree to disagree, as I think it wouldn't harm the good use of downvotes and would be a good deterrent.

(Case in point, albeit a bit anecdotal: Several more competent forums like CDPR's use such a system and it seems to work)

yea but it is still EPIC :/

i would like GOG version more then EPIC.

Will wait for better sale here.
While I definitely prefer GOG over the other stores, and certainly don't like DRM, if those other stores are going to give away freebies, why not grab them.

I have plenty of freebies from Epic, but not installed any of them yet. But in a very real way, those freebies are like a Demo on steroids. They allow me to check out games properly, that I may then decide to buy on GOG, at the right price, and especially for added content (DLCs etc). You know ... try before you buy sort of thing ... especially good where actual Demos don't exist.

When you grab a game from Epic or Steam etc, that GOG also sell, you are still dealing with the same Devs, with the only difference being DRM ... which is not always the case. And with Steam, you may even benefit with GOG Connect one day ... I certainly have a few times. Perhaps we will get GOG Connect working with Epic at some point, who knows.

In any case, every freebie I get from Epic or Steam, is one sale loss to them. It might boost their numbers, but that is all. They might see it as beneficial, but I can assure you they will never get money from me because of it ... the Devs might if I later buy at GOG ... but they would in any case if I bought at GOG.

And never forget, that GOG might die one day. As much as I hate the possibility, one needs to consider that possible reality. That won't make me rush out and buy stuff from the other stores, but I will have a good free library collection to play beyond GOG. I think what I have already will see me out to the end of my days anyway.

EDIT
At the end of the day, it all comes down to how you rationalize things.
Yes, I may have to install the clients from other stores and I am not really happy about that.
But with a game I got for free, I don't need to consider whether that acquisition is future proof or not, so DRM is not a major factor in their case, in that regard. If I cared too much about that, then I would just buy the game at GOG ... if possible.
So in a sense, I don't really feel I own the freebies from other stores. They are just something I get to play with if I want.
If I lose access to them, no money lost, no stolen purchase.
They are a bit like a free loan from a library.
If they last beyond that, added extra bonus.

For me, GOG is about owning the game I buy ... about installing whenever and wherever ... having that freedom.
If I don't buy, but get for free, it is less of an issue for me ... another kind of freedom.

Another interesting game coming up on Epic: "For The King".

I for one have claimed about 20 free games on Epic. Only games I'm interested in. Only games that have no DRM.

Haven't played any of those games. I guess I'm just collecting them at this point. :D
