Tallima: I was just talking to a friend who lives 1/2 here and 1/2 in Turkey and he was telling me about how the Kurds were bombing Turkey and the US permitted Turkey only 48 hours to respond or "consequences" would be had. We didn't hear anything about it here, but Turkey news was going nuts. To me, that's important.
Engerek01: When did this happen? There is no sign of this news in any news channel or newspaper.
In Turkey news channels dont give news, they only give magazine. If a football team transfers a player it is 1 hour news but 20 people die but you wont hear it from anywhere. Thats why we are organized in Facebook, cos thats the only way of getting news nowadays. There is also Twitter. Thats why Turkish goverment bans Facebook, twitter and youtube periodically to avoid news getting out. Like when President's bodyguards killed 3 people just because they said "booo" . No channel gave this news so we put the videos on youtube. And bam! youtube, FB and twitter were banned for 3 months. I hope you get the point.
Wow. That's sounds about right.
My friend was saying how people kept harassing him for more information and asking why the White House wouldn't allow them to retaliate. He kept saying "I'm an American, but not America. I don't make those decisions," which, of course, everyone already knew but they were frustrated.
He lives in Smyrna, so I can't imagine Kurds attacked way out that far. I figured it was all in the news. But it must be word-of-mouth news. I'll have to ask him next time I see him.
Thanks for sharing about Turkey! I'm very fascinated about your country and culture. It's hard to get reliable information here except from first-hand accounts. Everything my friend tells me seems completely different from what I read.
P.S. Here's an article that references what I think he must have been talking about:
