Melee was quite annoying in Skyrim & Co, that swing got rather nauseating after a while.
I have the same isssue with most games of this kind. Thus I always go with bow & arrow as the main weapon.

However, Dead Island and Dying Light worked well for me, as well as stealth-based games like Dishonored.
