Matewis: I was always fascinated by the screenshots of Cybermage Darklight Awakening
I second that.

What about Shadowcaster? Does that count? It is an RPG, but the gameplay is rather an FPS.

And what about the Marathon games? Do they count as obscure? Probably not.

Certainly not for Mac owners... but maybe to people who never had a Mac? With the popularity of Halo I'm sure people looked at the older titles though.
Alpha Storm
A mix between space sim and first person shooter.

Probably the most obscure FPS I have put most hours into is Witchaven, but if a game is not popular is due to some reasons, I would have a hard time to call this piece of mediocrity a "favourite" of mine.
Precursors
- very flawed, very buggy ... but also very ambitious and weirdly entertaining

Clive Barker's Undying
- not really 'obscure', but surprising number of players never heard of it. Back when I first played it it really took me by surprise how good the story was.

I loved ShadowCaster... it's a bit FPS-y, true.

And I've mentioned Marathon somewhere above (with port download page).

What about CyClones (another Raven early work) or Strife?

Edith says: I also loved CyberMage, another FPS/RPG melange by David W. Bradley of Wizardry fame.

You mean this one?
(your link leads to a 'Bad Title' Wiki page)

Edit: you probably need to get around the region block to access that link.

Cyclones... I don't know why the link won't work:

Strife isn't region locked in Germany.

Ah. Good to know. I haven't played CyClones. But let's get it here! :-)

KoreaBeat: It doesn't get too much more obscure than Lethal Tender. What a terrible game.
avatar
Oddeus: But it has a nice feature: You can´t hurt the enemies until they notice you. Why don´t modern games have this gimmick? Sniper players would love this :)
Man, I did not even notice that. All I really remember is the molasses controls and the weird limping effect when you get injured. I heard it had a sequel but never saw it.

neurasthenya: Vivisector: Beast Within, by 1C Company, same guys from Cryostasis.
Ah this is the one I was thinking of, fun game!
avatar
Smannesman: Here's a couple I remember:
Chasm: The Rift
Gore: Ultimate Soldier
In Pursuit of Greed
Cyclones
Alpha Storm
The Wheel of Time

And a first person RPG, kinda FPS-y:
Amulets & Armor

And a third person one, just because it popped into my head:
H.E.D.Z.
Did you actually like all of these? I believe some of them aren't typically considered to be very good.
Necrodome

Though you actually drive a vehicle, it plays mostly like an old shooter. http://www.mobygames.com/game/necrodome

Thanks to everyone who mentioned Alpha Storm! I consider myself very well-versed on obscure Doom-style FPSes as I collect this type of game, but somehow I wasn't aware of that one.

My favorite super-obscure FPSes:

The Hidden Below. Pretty much my favorite game of all time, but very obscure. Check out my fansite on it.

Goosebumps: Attack of the Mutant . An awesome cartoon-like art style and does a great job combining FPS and puzzle elements with a fun story.

Madspace . Really fun, very creative and an awesome engine. Has some cool tricks like non-euclidean geometry.

Thor's Hammer Trilogy . Very obscure, probably the best of the Wolf-3D clones. Has a cool story and some light RPG-like elements. Really feels like you're on a truly epic quest from start to finish, no filler.

Robokiller: Special Edition - But I'm biased since I made it :-)

Krimzon14: Black on PS2/Xbox was a fun game. Developed by Criterion from 2004-2005, it's a good-looking game for it's time. There's nothing super special about it but it was a fun shooter with a budget action-movie-level story that was basically just an excuse to walk through levels and shoot some dudes, although the game is notable for punishing attempts to go all-out Rambo, as taking cover is rather necessary at most times and health doesn't regenerate. It's a fun little buried treasure that you can probably still download on Xbox 360, I think? There was also a spiritual-successor developed called Bodycount that received much less praise than the original and the series as a whole has more or less faded into obscurity.
Black is back. Not only can it be downloaded on 360 like you said, it recently got backward compatibility for Xbox One. 4x resolution on a standard and 16x resolution on an Xbox One X. All you need is the original disc or it can be purchased digitally for something like $9, and it looks better than a lot of HD remasters.
