Every time I try to start Far cry 2 Fortunes edition it crashes the moment it tries to "pop up" or go full screen. Never goes far enough to display anything other than swift black screen and then it crashes. No error messages nothing.

Tried different compatibility modes. None of them help.
Tried fiddling with the GamerProflile.Xml.
Running admin does not help.

The safe mode does not work. But funny enough the benchmark mode works for some reason. Not that it does any good.

Any tips on how to fix this?

Cheers for the tip.

Sadly it did not seem to fix it though.

Only crash issue I see listed on PC Gaming Wiki is fixed by replacing a .dll file. Did you try that?

If what you meant was the file systemdetection.dll. That did not work either. I only tried though only without any other "fixes" simultaniously.

Thank you for the tip though. :)
Look at the error messages! Where they are? Depends on your OS.

Also, more discussion in the Far Cry subforum here: https://www.gog.com/forum/far_cry_series

Without any info it’s hard to say. Does your system meet the specs, what operating system, galaxy or plain offline installers. Installed outside windows folders, say to c:/mygames/farcry2? And you tried editing the confit files to set your monitor size? You could also try one of the big mods:
https://www.moddb.com/downloads/new-dunia-v2-complete
For example.
Did you install in program files (x86)? I had the same problem installing to program files fixed it. some of these older late 2000s games need to be installed to program files, which is something I've got into a habit of not doing these days. hope this helps.

Is this some new requirement?

At least a few years ago when I played and finished the game (GOG version) on Windows 7, I am pretty sure I did not install it under Program Files, but under the default C:/GOG Games/ where the game installs itself by default.

That's very counter-intuitive! I suppose modern games might like being installed in programme files, but usually you avoid is to avoid the permissions problems in Windows. I'm pretty sure that I installed my retail copy to c:\games with no problems.

I don't know. I install Most of my games on my hdd I:/games, so I don't if that had anything to do with. I just posted what worked for me. As for the rest of my post I might be talking shit, I don't know?

I installed my game on D:\games\.... and my Far Cry 2 (GOG version) crashed in title screen without any message. After uninstallation and installing it on C-drive under Program Files, no problem.

:(
Game wouldn't run for me either, crash before full screen every time. Changing install over to C drive program files didn't work either. Here's what worked for me. Run benchmark tool that's installed with the game. Run it in window mode, 720p and DirectX 9. I had everything on medium. Benchmark ran fine. After the benchmark run the game also ran fine lol.
Don't have the game, so I can't check, but dgVoodoo2 is my goto when all else fails. Hope this helps.
