TheBigCore: I see so many Germans on this site playing supposedly "banned" games like Wolfenstein 3D and the various Postals that these bans seem to be hilariously ineffective at stopping people from playing these games.
Wolfenstein 3D is in fact no longer banned.
Also, most of these have been "on the index" since the 90s or early 2000s, and back then it was somewhat more difficult to get them. Nowadays much fewer games are indexed to begin with.
Besides, a game being "on the index" doesn't mean it it forbidden to play or buy it. It is forbidden to advertise it and to sell it to people under the age of 18. But since it would be too much of a hassle to make sure the person buying these games is legally allowed to do so, the digital storefronts instead decided not to sell them at all in Germany. However, there was a time when they could be bought by Germans as well, and it is still possible to receive them as gifts, hence the Germans playing them.
