I don't know about censorship but the GOG version is free of the two problems that still seem to affect the Steam version - The GOG version has multi-core CPU fix pre-patched and seems to be a "clean" build completely free of "Games For Windows Live" that's embedded on all other versions. I've never had any crashes at all for GOG's Fallout 3 that Steam reviewers are complaining about. I read about the unbanning, but I don't know for sure if the game content is unbanned in German language. Perhaps someone else from Germany can answer that. New Vegas should be the same although I found that more buggy than FO3 (even on the GOG version) due to the game. It's playable though.

As an American, I can't help but notice the German government is hyper sensitive to anything violent. Does the German government really think that censoring games and preventing ordinary Germans from playing them is somehow going to stop most people?

I see so many Germans on this site playing supposedly "banned" games like Wolfenstein 3D and the various Postals that these bans seem to be hilariously ineffective at stopping people from playing these games.

One word: scapegoatism.

Most people? Ordinary Germans? Yes.
All people? No.

Wolfenstein 3D is in fact no longer banned.

Also, most of these have been "on the index" since the 90s or early 2000s, and back then it was somewhat more difficult to get them. Nowadays much fewer games are indexed to begin with.

Besides, a game being "on the index" doesn't mean it it forbidden to play or buy it. It is forbidden to advertise it and to sell it to people under the age of 18. But since it would be too much of a hassle to make sure the person buying these games is legally allowed to do so, the digital storefronts instead decided not to sell them at all in Germany. However, there was a time when they could be bought by Germans as well, and it is still possible to receive them as gifts, hence the Germans playing them.

i totally understand this, germany WAS in fact very strange and nowadays many things are uncut finally, even games with swastikas get more and more unbanned!
you can take it as that, germans are open for sex and americans are the opposite on the market ;D.

Do Americans really think *bleeping* words on national TV will stop people from using these words?

Do Americans really think pixelating tits and nipples, and anything remotely resembling the shape of a penis, will keep kids (and adults?) from developing sexual desire?

Will we ever get an answer to these questions? Probably not in our lifetime...
