Demos are a great way of learning if a game is for you or not. Unfortunately, some are kind of bullshit.

The big one I remember is, of course, Aliens Colonial Marines, where I believe both the graphics and AI were entirely not representative of the final product.

This week a different type of "fake demo" got on my nerves. The demo for Destiny on the PS4. Maybe it's the sort of mindless fun game that I can listen a podcast while I play, or maybe it's super repetitive and boring. Good thing it has a demo so I can find out for myself.

The demo was 20 fucking Gb. I was wondering why the download was taking as long as it was, of course, it's not a demo at all, they want me to download the entire game and then if I do decide to buy it they'll probably have me download a 200kb key to unlock it. I don't exactly have a data cap to worry about, but this is a shitty thing to do regardless. My internet isn't that fast and I'm not going to spend a whole day downloading a demo, to play it for half an hour, find out it's crap and delete it.

Have you had any bad experiences with demos like these?
One example of a bad demo that I encountered was Final Fantasy XII.

The demo does not allow you to access the menu. This means that, in particular, you do not have access to the gambit system, which I consider to be the most interesting aspect of the game. As a result, the demo gives the wrong impression, and I ended up not getting FF12, whereas I might have if the demo had let me play with gambits a bit.
The James Pond 2: Codename Robocod demo given away on Amiga magazine coverdiscs was like the Destiny one, only it worked out brilliantly for consumers- the developers coded the game to end after a few levels, but forgot to disable the 'open all levels' cheat code, meaning the entire game was accessible in the free version.
This thread reminds me of my thread!!! I remember Burnout Paradise Ultimate Box Demo has full game and to play it all you need is ██████████████████████████████ and enjoy!!! :P
This is a different sort of "fake" demo, but, apparently:

At RPG Limit Break, there will be a speedrun of the demo version of Wild Arms in which the player completes the full game. This means one of two things:
1. There is a way to escape the demo, and said areas are included on the demo disk
2. The ending is on the demo disk and can be accessed via Arbitrary Code Execution (known to be possible in the full game)
i didn't even think companies released real demos last demos i had where from the Original Xbox but i guess they stopped in 2012 on the 360 other then that no such thing as demos anymore
