Is anyone else getting a lot of "Failed" downloads from the offline GOG installers? Today GOG returned this error twice and I can't download the Songs of Silence demo as a result.

I'm using Firefox on Windows 10. I've attached a screenshot.

I just downloaded the file without problems on Win10 using Firefox.

I haven't tried this week, but a couple weeks ago, I was getting horribly slow downloads (GOG offline installers) that would sometimes go so slow, that the download would end up just quitting. Re-starting it would pick up where it left off, but again super slow, and it would drag down to a stop between 3 and 10 times before quitting. A 400 MB game would take two hours at that rate. That's with me sitting there and babysitting it so I could re-start it when it would quit.

I don't know where in the USA you are at, but I'm in Bismarck, North Dakota, USA, and while I was experiencing this for at least a week, I noticed that very few other people were complaining about it on GOG's forums, so I figured it was my location or something.

At any rate, about a week later, things suddenly got much better without me doing a damn thing, so I still don't know what was up. My downloads still aren't anywhere near as fast as Steam or Epic, but I can deal with the speed now. That same 400 MB file would now take maybe three minutes compared to the two hours I was getting before, so I can definitely live with that.

EDIT: I just download the Songs of Silence Demo, and the 1.5 GB file took about 4 minutes to download, so things are looking to be back to normal for me anyway (Windows 11 with Chrome).
Maybe look into trying a VPN?

So is this issue only occurring with people living in the US? I've also noticed that the download rate has been incredibly slow. The GOG website is downloading at 1-2MB/sec.

It's been much better for me lately, but still slower than it was, say a year or so ago.

And now today suddenly, every single download attempt is failing, almost immediately. (Offline installers) USA

I once had that problem, I tried to download games on my phone browser and worked. Have you tried another browser?

I had download problems not long ago, everything was failing.

Then i noticed my drive was full...

I guess in short... i wish a 'reason' was supplied rather than a generic 'failed'.

Nope lots of folk in the USA are getting good speeds no doubt.
Just as many in other countries are too.

But then a huge number of us all over the world, like you, are getting crappy speeds. Ever since the CDN crash in mid 2023.

How crappy, can depend on time of day, and the type of sale GOG currently have on, and how close it is to the end of the sale.

It seems pretty clear that many of us are having our speed throttled. How much of that is GOG or Fastly or both, is anyone's guess right now, as well as why. Are they giving good speeds to others at our expense perhaps. It certainly seems like GOG have been engaging in cost cutting measures in the last year or so.

I recommend using a multi-thread downloading program, that has resume (i.e. Free Download Manager)

Well, I didn't do a damned thing, and now my downloads are working again. Very slow still though, I'm averaging between 2 and 5 MB/s. Which I can live with. It's better than nothing.

But it does make me wonder why I am getting 35 to 40 MB/s from both itch.io and Steam, and between 2 and 5 MB/s from GOG.

I suppose it's possible that it's something on my end, but with all other places working normally, I'm having trouble imagining that. In my case, my drive has 4TB used out of 16TB, and the only messages I got are "Failed - Network error" and "Check internet connection." My internet connection was fine, as everything else worked normally. I have a 500 Mbps connection here, which by my calculations should be good for about 60 MB/s, and no cap.

I do realize that I'm not going to get the full 60 MB/s due to a variety of factors, however I do normally get 35 to 40 from those other places, so I don't get why I'm stuck with 2 to 5 from GOG.

Yep. Getting almost immediate failed downloads today from GOG. Trying to download the updated Cyberpunk offline installer files. Definitely GOG related as every other website is screaming fast and stable. Will try again tomorrow. Weird.

Yeah I can't seem to download any of the updates that went up today. They all start then go for a minute then die. Anything more than a couple of megabytes fails. CP2077's patch I only got the .exe file, the bin file fails constantly. I can't even get the latest version of the windows version of stone shard, though strangely enough the linux version downloaded fine.

Joining the queue of folks with offline installer downloads constantly failing.. got the first 2 or so, and the last of the current 2.21 files for Phantom Liberty but every file inbetween keeps giving me a network error. Both with and without using my usual download program (IDM), it picks up where it left off but yeah annoying having to constantly resume it.

More traffic than usual today or eh, GOG side error?

Problems for me since the start of 2025. Had a few fail now. They do work eventually, at least for now...

Latest failure - Peaks of Yore Updated files. The base game file cannot be downloaded, because "the source file cannot be read".

Tried a few times this morning, given-up for now, getting nowhere.

Since yesterday I'm unable to download new offline installers due to the downloads being broken off at random points and Firefox refuses to continue the download at the point it broke off. This might be an issue with CDN?
