Back in my teens, we had several LAN parties with Duke 3D / Quake 1-2-3 / Counter Strike matches overnight. I even remember a couple of instances where all of us were playing single player Diablo 2 and even The Sims "together".

Now over 35 with a family, working overnight on projects with a deadline is a more regular occurrence. Firewatch came close one time. Oh and when my wife and daughter went away on holiday last year for a week, I had a few nights playing GTA V all the way through. Alas, they came back. :)

kharille: damned issue with posting. Yeah, thats the game. couldn't get into mount & blade, fire and sword. Napoleon wars is pure multiplayer, fun for a while. Perisno is a beautiful mod. Brytenwalda is fun for 7th century brawling and little cavarly. Gek is fun if you can get the mods, daimyo seems to be incomplete but there are earlier ones like with suguroku.

badon: Does the GOG version support multiplayer? I suspect I will need to get the Steam version for that, but I didn't think of it until now, and I passed on a few sales for Steam Warband. If your recommendation is based on the Steam version, then I should probably get that version.
Hm, thought multiplayer was a default feature on the main screen. I installed the gog version on my laptop and never saw any difference, I'm sure there were times I went into multiplayer just to spectate on my gog version. I really don't think there is any difference except that gog allows you to install whilst offline. Really should not be any issue.

OK! Then I will get the GOG version first with the expectation that everything should work. Then, if it doesn't I can try the Steam version last, but hopefully that won't be necessary, and I will only need my pure and holy GOG DRM-free copy :)
I think I recall now, when I wanted to get into multiplayer I had to retrieve a serial key. Not an issue, I just keep some basic note file with my gog game in case I want to log in and do multiplayer. Just another step which you don't need to deal with on steam. I think it asks you for your serial key when you say you want to engage multiplayer.
Oh, I did that many times.
It's quite bad for your productivity and health in the long run, if you exaggerate..
Not all night since an AD&D session at a con 20+ years ago. Not past 2 am for a few years iirc, and past midnight has gotten pretty rare. I'm more often up early playing on the weekend, because I get up to walk the dog while everyone else sleeps in (and I'm more of a morning person anyway).

Early morning gaming with that first cup of coffee is pretty glorious though :)
That is, provided you got a good night's sleep...
With the old Civ... The sentence "One more turn and I go to bed" has caused an insane amount of sleep deprivation.

Exactly! If I slept properly, I'm actually better at platformers/twitchy games early in the morning.
Into next morning? Try over a whole weekend... but it helps to play fast-paced fps tournaments and alot of cola...

When I was younger that is :-P

Now you know how people in Alaska feel.
Ah I'm suddenly reminded of that old video of the Halo 2 player falling asleep and snoring through his mic at 7 in the morning XD
