Franziskan Human Cleric
Divine Retaliation on me cast turn 13 expires at the end of turn 17
Holy Guardian cast turn 12 expiires at the end of turn 16
Me not know much about magic. Is Ball of Holy Light safe? Me stands very close to Burgut.

PaterAlf: Me not know much about magic. Is Ball of Holy Light safe? Me stands very close to Burgut.
It only has one target, it isn't an area of effect spell, and I choose the target so I wouldn't worry about it hitting another target. Unless the DM decides there is a chance that someone gets in the way accidentally and rolls the dice, you are safe.

Ok, me trust that you know magic. Me don't, me just knows heavy axes and swords to kill evil things.

Zadalon: Doc pmed me that he informed clerics and paladins of an undead presence when Trid was near them. Why was I the only one to post in the thread about it? Did others receive similar pms? If others had posted in the thread, maybe we would have suspected who the undead was.
avatar
Cavalary: There were only 2 clerics and 1 paladin in this tunnel to begin with, and the paladin died quickly.
I've never received any message from Doc about powerful undead presences near us, truth be told I've never been around Tridris that much, I have only briefly meet him in the large tunnel at the very start of our adventure.
The last happenings also explain why he was not scared at all when Franziskan warn him about a powerful undead presence in the room with the four statues and promptly drive him away... very interesting development and very well played out.
Too bad my character won't be eagerly happy about it:)
[47 Raybur Wolfsktaa - Male Dwarven Cleric]

Spells casted: 7/24

A Lich! Hided in our midst! Raybur feels like his whole world is crumbling, because he, with his actions, has contributed to make such an evil creature even stronger: he will never allow such a dangerous foe to reach the surface at the cost of his life.
When Raybur realizes the true nature of their former companion he will try to take him by surprise casting "Smite Evil" two times in a row, after that he will take a few step away from the other companions as to not endanger them with the lich's retaliation and cast globe of protection on himself.
Current Situation:

Area around the open metal door:
There are still 2 Ogres and 2 Trolls left standing. One Troll is fighting a Holy Guardian and the other is under a Stupify spell. The Ogre, Burgut, is temporarily blind and dropped his weapons due to Calad's Wand of Acid Arrows. The Ogre Mage is staggered from Valius's magic missiles and further damaged from Thelis's arrows dropping the Ogre to his knees. Krssl Kssk got a boulder dropped on him.... he dead. Tridris pulled the the red object from the dead troll and revealed herself to be a Lich in tattered robes. Tridris has received the 3rd and final Artifact of Power.

Area where the Ogres emerged from:
Garethianopolisian and Gold pass by the fighting and arrive in this room.

Beyond the Double Wooden Door:
Godbran Helloburger, Fognino, and Cardan discover a slug-like creature that spreads out across the hall. Other smaller creatures tend to the 'slugs' every need. There also appears to be a large mirror further back in the hall that is showing trees rather than any reflections.
*The description of the large creature ahead may not be accurate due to distance away.*

Current Actions Summary

17 - Trid - Tridris - Drow Necromancer -- LICH -- ( Death Armour )
I'm casting Magic Shield/Reflect Spells/Reflect Missiles, I'm ordering Silver Sword to protect me/fallow me
After that I'm saying to remaining people in the room that saw me (and I'm assuming looking at me).
"I'm truly thankful for your assistance, who would thought this bunch of incompetent fools will be useful... *after short a pause I'm continuing* I guess you deserve a little reward, hmm... I feel generous today so I will let all of you live..."
Then I'm looking at the clerics
"But I'm sure some of you will be not fond of receiving gifts from me *I'm laughing* well whatever, it's your choice how you want to die."
After saying that I'm looking at reactions, if no one attacking me I'm casting Invisibility and I'm going through the door that ogres came (and where Gold went).

23 - BranjoHello - Godbran Helloburger - Halfling Thief
I'm going to sneak closer then use my teleportation blackjack to teleport near the mirror so I can examine it. I'll use up to 2 "charges" to get to the mirror. I'll save one "charge" so I can teleport away from any danger if someone spots me or even better teleport behind someone who threatens me and knock them out with my blackjack. Aiming for back of the head (if a target has a head of course xD).
Before I make this action that will somewhat separate me from my 2 companions Fognino and Cardan, I address them:
"I'm going sort of behind enemy lines here. I suggest you approach this sluggish creature from the front. You're pretty equipped now, just watch where you cast or burp your fire, I don't feel like going out as roasted chicken. We're still at shouting distance so if anything complicated happens just yell it out."

11 - Enebias - Fognino - Goblin Shaman
Helmet and mace at the ready, Fognino sneaks further into the room, trying to get as close as possible to the creatures to identify if they are friendly or aggressive.
The moment they try to attack, he'll cast fog cloud to run past them, towards the mirror.
He informs Cardan of his plan, so he can assist and follow.

8 - cardangrille - Cardan - Half Orc Berserker
If slugs attack us, Cardan will belch fire at any that come close and go follow halfling and shaman friends to big mirror

18 - Cavalary - Calad - Elf Mage -- ( Reflect Spells, Levitate )
With Burgut blinded and, according to last info, one Troll still out of the fight due to Ray of Stupidity and another probably still trying to stay away from acid range, while of course making sure he won't hit companions, Calad uses his Wand of Acid Arrows on the Ogre Mage, aiming for the head, while carefully making his way through the door to float into the room, remaining/returning close to the ceiling. Fight's ahead, so better not stay in the hallway after all, and this may allow for better shots as well.
If the Ogre Mage will be killed and there will still be time in the turn, he will target another enemy, in order of priority, shooting as many times as the turn allows:
1. Any enemy about to strike a player.
2. Burgut
3. The closest recovering Troll, about to get back in the fight, if any.
4. The closest enemy.

6 - PaterAlf - Pater Alf - Half Orc Warrior
Me tries to finish Burgut while he is blinded, on the floor and without a weapon.
If someone of me companions is in urgent danger, me will protect them first

31 - blastradius - Valius - Elven Battlemage
Valius decides to cast Magic Missile after his fighting companions attack, watching to see if the ogre mage or Burgut still lives after their attacks. Whichever enemy is still alive after their attacks, Valius will aim Magic Missile at that enemy

12 - te_lanus - Garethianopolisian - Half Orc Ranger
Me sneaks back into the fight. Me see Bugrut dropping axe. Me foolishly decide to grab axe and swing at Bugrut's throat .

62 - ariaspi - Thelis - Human Ranger
62 - Thelis - Human Ranger seeing the Ogre Mage dropping on his knees, continues to put arrows in him, aiming for the head.

46 - PMPMGamer - Gold - Goblin Ranger
As I got a better crossbow I decide to abandon my old one.
Before heading to the wooden doors, I decide to experiment with the sturdy black crossbow.
I decide to attack the Ogre Mage and Bugrut with the sturdy black crossbow and thus help the companions left behind.

44 - Zadalon - Franziskan - Human Cleric -- ( Divine Retaliation, Summoned Holy Guardian )
If Burgut is alive, I cast Ball Of Holy Light at him until he's dead. If Burgut is dead, I cast Ball Of Holy Light at the ogre mage until he's dead. If the ogre mage is dead too, I cast Ball Of Holy Light at the troll which was fighting the Holy Guardian.
Divine Retaliation on me cast turn 13 expires at the end of turn 17
Holy Guardian cast turn 12 expiires at the end of turn 16

47 - dmg1975 - Raybur Wolfsktaa - Dwarven Cleric -- ( Globe of Protection )
When Raybur realizes the true nature of their former companion (Tridris) he will try to take him by surprise casting "Smite Evil" two times in a row, after that he will take a few step away from the other companions as to not endanger them with the lich's retaliation and cast globe of protection on himself.

Haven't taken turn yet:
7 - Ilan14 - Daniel - Human Thief
27 - Maxvorstadt - Balbok - Half-Orc Shaman
60 - Gekko_Dekko - Daddy Burrson - Dwarf Warrior
79 - v1989 - Vertel - Human - Thief
4 turns left to escape.

** TURN 16 **

Eastern Tunnel:

*rolls dice*
The Troll snaps out of its Stupify spell.

17 - Tridris - LICH casts the following spells upon himself Magic Shield/Reflect Spells/Reflect Missiles and orders his Silver Sword to his side for protection. You thank those around you for their unwitting help in accomplishing your goal.
You start heading back to where the Ogres came from, wondering what became of your Goblin helper.

23 - Godbran Helloburger - Halfling Thief you inform your companions that you are going to try to sneak behind enemy l lines. *rolls dice* As you get closer you see the creatures in more detail - the large slug is actually a magically created Orcish Brood Mother. It is fully 20 feet in length and is excreting fully formed, orcs, goblins, hobgoblins, trolls and ogres from its rear end.
There is a huge mound of gold and gems, your eyes light up, next to Orczilla that goblins are using to scurry up and shove food into her mouth.
Many of the creatures wander of to the sides of the cavern to scavenge through piles of old armour and weapons.
You decide to get a closer look at what you hope is a portal. You use your blackjacks teleport once to get closer *rolls dice* and appear behind an orc 12 feet from the portal. *rolls dice* You thwack it across the back of the head and it falls unconscious.
You use your blackjacks teleport again *rolls dice* and are now 9 feet from the portal. There is an Orc bent over in front of your, picking at a toenail *rolls dice* you thwack it across the back of the head, it falls unconscious.
It is indeed a portal leading to a forest. In front of the portal 6 orcs in robes bow as if worshipping the gateway as a god.
*rolls dice* Many creatures are milling around and you feel vulnerable where you are.

23 - Godbran Helloburger - Halfling Thief earns the achievement *Lights Out*

11 - Fognino - Goblin Shaman as you move further into the room your Halfling companion sneaks off ahead. You see an Orc Brood Mother pumping out loads of your brethren ahead of you. *rolls dice* You are spotted by two Orcs *rolls dice* but as you go to cast your spell the Orcs carry on walking, looking for armour, as if you are one of them.

8 - Cardan - Half Orc Berserker you follow your Goblin friend imagining how nice cooked slug would taste. You see all the gold by the giant slug, Orcthing, your eyes light up.

18 - Calad - Elf Mage feeling that time is short, you float through the door into the room while aiming at the Ogre Mages head. *rolls dice* As you fire your Wand of Acid Arrows the Ogre Mage uses the last of its power to magically lift the Troll that has just recovered from the spell of stupidity into the way.
*rolls dice* Your Acid Arrows strike the Troll in the face silencing it once and for all.

6 - Pater Alf - Half Orc Warrior *rolls dice* with all your might you swing your axe into the face of Burgut DwarfMuncher who collapses dead at your feet. You lift your pet potato from your pocket and proudly proclaim "Look Olmse, me not just smart, me tough Ogre killer too!"
*rolls dice* You notice a pouch of gems fall from Burguts body and grab it.

31 - Valius - Elven Battlemage you aim Magic Missile at the stricken Ogre Mage *rolls dice* who collapses unable to take anymore damage.

12 - Garethianopolisian - Half Orc Ranger sneaking back into the fight, your mouth full of cooked cave slug, you grab Burguts axe with both hands *rolls dice* and bring it down into the back of the Troll that is still struggling with the Holy Guardian. The Troll lets out an unnatural scream and tries to reach behind to free the axe.

62 - Thelis - Human Ranger *rolls dice* you put two arrows into the head of the fallen Ogre Mage to ensure it is dead.

46 - Gold - Goblin Ranger you turn back to help your companions but seeing both Ogres fall, you decide to continue on through the wooden doors. You see lots of moving creatures up ahead and what may be a portal out.

44 - Franziskan - Human Cleric you cast Ball Of Holy Light at the screaming Troll that Garethianopolisian kindly stuck an axe into.
*rolls dice* Your spell ignites around the Troll, the Holy light burning its life essence away.

47 - Raybur Wolfsktaa - Dwarven Cleric you see the true nature of Tridris and say a little prayer to your God, knowing that you may well meet him soon.
You cast Globe Of Protection on yourself.
Making sure that you are not too close to your companions, you see Tridris turn and start heading towards the back of the room. You cast Smite Evil *rolls dice* your spell is absorbed by Tridris Magic Shield.
You cast Smite Evil evil again *rolls dice* the spell is reflected back onto you but has no effect as you are a goodly creature.

47 - Raybur Wolfsktaa - Dwarven Cleric earns the achievement *A Dwarf Of Principle*

*People need to start moving with purpose if they are to escape*

12 - Garethianopolisian - Half Orc Ranger readies his Dwarven Waraxe and runs down the corridor to the outside, ready to strike at anything standing in his way
Fognino, Goblin Shaman

While initally surprised of being ignored, quickly realizing the situation could turn to be a real life saver and feeling the mirror might be the end of his ordeal, Fognino grins towards Cardan and tires to locate the Halfling Thief Godbran, sending him an almost imperceptible nod.

The absolute first thing he has to do is making sure if the mirror is indeed a way out. Secondly, he should look to the broodmother's hoard to find objects of extreme value and other potential clues - without touching anything, which would likely mean instant death at the hands of the small horde.

Third... he might have a great plan. In any case, he must act very fast to complete his first two objectives, time is short.

(As soon as Doc tells me what I can deduce from point 1 and 2, the greatescape begins).
46 - Gold - Goblin Ranger
I continue to advance the room very carefully as these creatures can be dangerous and attack someone suddenly.
That's why I bring my sturdy black crossbow ready to attack something that might come to attack me.
I also try to think of a strategy to reach this possible portal in the safest way.
17 - Tridris - Lich
Casted Death Armour at turn 15, Magic Shield/Reflect Spells/Reflect Missiles at turn 16.
Summoned Silver Sword at turn 11

"Ah, I knew it, you clerics just can't take good will from someone... evil I guess *I'm laughing* well... you had made your choice, hopefully other ones will not suffer because of it."

I'm casting Dispel Magic>Enfeeble>Doom Scarabs/Blood Burst on the 47 - Raybur Wolfsktaa - Male Dwarven Cleric.

1. If he die (*)...
2. If he was able to withstand it then I'm saying. "You lucky little meat ball, I don't have time for this now" I'm casting Summon Monster to keep the cleric busy and...

...I'm casting invisibility on myself and moving along where I wanted before he rudely attacked me.

With all the orcs and trolls dead, me suddenly get the feeling something bad will happen soon and we should hurry.

Me follows cowards who fled the fight to big room with Orc Brood Mother (is it you mommy?) and stops at the entrance of that cave. Don't think we can fight such a horde and me doubts they will let us go peacefully. Me remembers that one of companions wanted to use strange spell Meteor Strike for a while. Might be good idea now?

Pater Alf - Half-Orc Warrior
Trying to stay clear of the Lich-Cleric battle, Calad temporarily drops back down to search the Ogre Mage's body for anything useful, magical items in particular. After doing so, he asks anyone still around whether we can afford to have a look at the so far ignored trapdoor outlined in red revealed by Valius' Detect Secrets spell and what do they think of the idea of levitating Cardan above the Orc Brood Mother for him to use his fire belch from above. Considering the replies to the first question, he will cast Dispel Ward at the trapdoor, just in case, before anybody reaches it and/or things get too hectic, and ask whether anyone can detect and disarm any potential traps on it.

I think we must go through the trapdoor. In the other path, the orcs, ogres etc from the orc brood mother don't attack the character half orcs, goblins etc because they consider them kin (there was some dice rolling involved in Fognino's case) but they will surely attack us and they are too many. Officially we don't know what is there but since the trapdoor is in this room it is nearer and it makes sense to go that way.

Maybe we should also delete our posts? No one remembered the trapdoor so why don't we let the lich go the other way and then post about going through the trapdoor? (I could send this suggestion in a pm but it will be fun if Trid reads it before Cavalary :D)

Btw do you have any Invisibility or Dispel Magic?
Post edited November 27, 2019 by Zadalon
I think it would be a great idea to check out the trapdoor, there may be another way out of here. I certainly wouldn't want to follow a Lich anywhere. Now, I do have Invisibility, so whatever's in there, hopefully I find something of use before anything spots me.

I check the corpse of the ogre mage as well to take anything of use before casting Invisibility, and go through the trapdoor

Valius, Elven Battlemage
Spells cast: Meteor Strike, Detect Secrets, Ray of Stupidity, Magic Missile x2, Invisibility since turn 10
