i lost access to my email account. The provider just vanished and took down email service months/years ago. I can't remember to have turned on 2 factor authentication in gog, but anyways now i can't login to my gog account too.
Contacted gog support a dozen times but never got any single reaction.
So now what, my account is gone forever?

1) How can someone lose access to their email account?
2) How come, your email provider "vanished [...] months/years" ago, without you noticing?

Could be an ISP provider one, I have one of those that came with the internet, I have never used it nor remember the details preferring to use my own ones.

So you had an e-mail address but you didn't check your inbox for what? Years? How else would you miss the many notifications of the upcoming termination of service? I also have a hard time believing that you would get no reaction at all despite numerous attempts through official channels.

Anyway:
- contact support via Nightcrawler's link
- explain the situation
- provide proof of ownership for the account (order confirmations, bank statements with payments to GOG)

That's the only way to get your account back.

That happened to me to. I wasn't paying much attention to changes or messages from them and then my ISP just removed the service (that and the whole homepage-space).

Next time use a provider you pay for (outside of your ISP), and use it daily. Use a provider that you can trust, like protonmail.com (born out of the CERN community).

Sounds like a whole lot of neglect and a lack of common sense. Those ISP email addresses are not designed to be used for anything much more than be a recoverable communication link between you and your ISP. My ISP told me that, as they were having customers complain about missing emails. Most are also only active for the length of time you are a customer, so not exactly something you want to use for accounts you could be using for decades.

What’s your point? I know that, you know that, but not everyone does. And even so I presented that as possible reason why he might have lost his email.

It's easy for email accounts to close or disappear. Those are facts.
Judging by some posters comments, they must live in a country where the Ministry of Email makes sure no account closes without a signature in person, in blood, in triplicate.

Emails should only be there in case someone loses their password not this nonsense of using it as part of the login or even as a username. Fucking retarded shit.

1. I don't know. Domain & website just closed. First an empty site. Month later domain expired. Even thought about renting the domain to recover my stupid account.
2. I didn't check that account, because i only had 1 email address there and it was for my gog account. Did that already. Like 20 times. Starting a year ago or something. Last contact form was filled out by me a week ago. Never even got a single response. Yup, that's what happened. IIRC gog didn't have a 2 factor authentication back in the days. Then one day i wanted to login and was asked for PIN. So i checked the webmail url and got an empty site back. Weeks later a 404. Weeks after that even the domain expired. Tried that. Never got a response. Thanks. But the problem remains. There's no guarantee that protonmail service is available for the next 5 years.

I wouldn't make that conclusion if I were you. Support is obligated to give you a response to your issue. They can't just ignore it and pretend your request to them never happened. If that is indeed what's happened so far, then you need to contact them again.

What email did you give on your support ticket? Likely responses were sent to an old account. I know there have been long waits with COVID, but support are pretty good and they will get back to you. You can try messaging a blue to chase up your ticket, but again it’s only support who can sort this out.

My new one of course. Asked to change the email address at my old account. Also asked them just to disable 2 factor authentication. Gave them also my password so they can try to login themselves. No response.

I don't want to enter an auction with minimum bet of $200. I don't even remember if i have games that much valuable on my gog account.

Volvo might be gone in 5 years, who knows... I might have trouble getting original parts in the future too...

I trust protonmail to still be there in 10 years into the future (at least) more than I trust Volvo to exist in 5 years time (Chinese companies can be volatile).
