So, recently I found out on the grapevine that that for once in the long life of Debian, they've done something logical. (I'm mostly saying that as a friendly razz.)

In that someone has copied the venerable AUR; (and COPR) meaning that user built packages can be sent to a central repository rather than having to rely on Ubuntu's horrible, insecure, and decentralized PPA system.

Even if this isn't an official effort, I do hope it catches on.

yep another badly thought out feature for the linux , it must be good cause it is different right? NO
ppa total crap , just how much easier to download an exe from a website than to set up a lame ppa only to be able to download an installer...

whoever is responsible for it should be hired then fired immediately
I've been using Arch Linux for several years and I love it. The AUR/build system works extremely well and you can almost always find applications in there that aren't in the official repos. I'm not surprised other distros would be emulating the model.

Windows is easier sometimes.

Interesting, I do not mind setting up one or possibly two PPAs but half a dozen, no thank you. Does it differ from AUR in any way?

yep
from aur you only run a script and thats all
yay package manager uses it instantly , like it was part of the main repo , very easy to use
but always read the scripts and check the links

Well, the AUR is centralized; so instead of having to pray that the PPA exists and isn't actually horribly out of date or malware, you can just check the data on the site.

It also implies having been waved past a build system, so that way you can see if it even will: For example, this is the COPR (Fedora's AUR equivalent) package for OpenRCT2.
