monkeydelarge: Never read any of the Dragonlance books. Are they worth reading if you are a fan of the Forgotten Realms books?
I would say so, definitely. I actually prefer them to the FR books. Although there are lots of similarities, Krynn is different enough to be familiar but surprising. Arguably some of the most beloved characters from D&D literature have their roots in the Dragonlance series (Raistlin Majere, Laurana, Kitiara, Tasslehoff, Lord Soth!). It also has some cool twists on the usual D&D tropes - like the Orders of High Sorcery (white/red/black), Knights of Solamnia, the Cataclysm, draconians, even (ahem) kender and tinker gnomes. And dragons. COOL dragons.
I would recommend the original chronicles trilogy and the follow-up twins trilogy, along with the more recent "lost chronicles" books, which take place in-between the original trilogy's three books and have a similar tone and more of the beloved characters.
Read "Dragons of Autumn Twilight". If you aren't hooked, it's probably not for you. But I hope you will be!
Regards and good gaming!
