Hi

I am just wondering if publishers / Devs get paid in the situation mentioned in the title. In my situation, I needed a gpu upgrade, so I picked up a 960 and basically got witcher 3 free, which was pretty neat, yet makes me feel like a criminal. Now, I wouldn't have actually bought the game myself because I don't like RPGs. However because I owned it, I could try it out and thought it was cool. Also, because I'm a collector and could safely assume it wouldn't follow a "payday 2 dlc plan", I also picked up the expansion pass (which I haven't even started).

So how does do these promotions work?

Thanks,
Depends on the agreement, but I think generally in partnerships like these there is either a percetage or set amount of each sale that goes to the publisher/dev.
Maybe.

The device manufacturer and the game publisher have worked out a deal - I would guess that either the device manufacturer pay to have the game as a selling point for their device, or the game publisher simply offer it and see the loss of income as advertising to sell more copies from another venue.

Yes,but in the end the profit they make is still over the top so they can do these deals.Think about it,they will not lose any money doing these promotions or at least a small percentage that is gained when they sell a huge amount. It's a WIN WIN situation for them.
No, developers and publishers generally get paid in standard currencies, I believe ;-)

The wording of the title was a little odd, wasn't it? :D
