xalegra: talk with someone who feels left out and alone, stand against bullying,
./waves hand.

White male victim of domestic violence here living in a city, county and state that says we don't exist. Even if we spent 6 weeks in a coma and my ex has 19 outstanding warrants, 12 of them felonies.

I was on paragraph seven of some of the shit I've gone through over the years but I decided that probably none of you wanted to hear any of that. *shrug*

All I;m going to say is that whatever organization you try and help out with, take a second and do some research to see if they're actually doing good.

Not in although if I had the funds in my wallet, I'd try to add a few games.

doronnorod: My taxes go into the pockets of scam and fraudulent charity services, where only 3% of charity proceeds actually go to the poor people and rest of the money is gobbled up by the CEOs of that charity organization.
Usually that's misinformation. I used to volunteer my time for a number of such groups. Quite often, each level of management as well as local organizations are run separately with separate budgets and the folks who are looking for trouble, only look at a single layer and assume that that's the entire company. The Humane Society is like that. They get a lot of crap for how things are run over there but they're only looking at the top most layer. That's where the CEO and his or her staff exist and are working at that level for the good of all of the lower organizations that are run separately. They're the ones who are doing the lobbying in Congress for animal protections. They're the ones doing the programs and the training for the lower layers. etc.

Again folks should take a few minutes and do their own research instead of listening to the talking heads.

Not In but I donated to the "March for our Lives" tomorrow.
Not in but thanks for a great giveaway.
We baby sat a dog here at the office all day from a client while they got their home carpet cleaned. (The owner wants it to be dog friendly even though we have to get the carpets cleaned ourselves and he complains about the cost.) The dog was terrified and all she wanted to do was get petted. Hated when we went out of her sight.

We're rather concerned.
Not in. Thank you for the giveaway.

+1
I'm in. In fact I'll donate blood next week as a volunteer. I intend to make of it a good habit. Thanks in advance for a chance to participate in this giveaway, xalegra!
Not in. This giveaway is very good :)
Not in.
Thanks for a nice giveaway!
If it counts, yesterday I donated a bit for the Franciscans' project of hospital in Matugga and I made quite late donation for donut for Africa by the Capuchins (which, of course, is not about sending donuts to Africa, just to be clear;).

I could mention a couple problematic "charities" that might look good at first (and are well known), but are actually not that good, and therefore should not be the recipient of your donations (whether time or money): .

Charity: The Salvation Army
Problem: They are a Christian organization, and have been known to push religion on those being helped, which is a problem for non-Christians. They have been known to discriminate against LGBT people (for example, by forcing transgender people to be housed with their birth-assigned sex). They've also supported discrimination in the law, like pushing against same sex marriage.
Alternative: Goodwill. (Also, don't forget that there may be some good local alternatives depending on where you are.)

Charity: Autism Speaks
Problem: They don't actually speak for autistic people; in fact, autistic people tend to actively dislike the charity. They portray autism as this horrible thing that needs to be cured, when autism is really just a difference that should be celebrated. Also, they focus on the parents of autistic children, and do little to help autistic adults. Further, it seems that most of their budget goes into research to try and "cure" autism.
Alternative: The Autism Self Advocacy Network.

Incidentally, some years ago the Human Rights Campaign might have made the list due to throwing transgender people under the bus (metaphorically), but I think they've improved in recent years. Nevertheless, there are alternatives here, like the National Center for Lesbian Rights (which actually do work for the whole LGBT community, not just for lesbians), and the Trever Project.

Of course, even after reading this post, you should still do your own research, and remember that there may be local organizations that might need your help more than the national ones.

Edit: Not in. (Forgot to say that originally. Oops!)

doronnorod: Any reason why fables deleted my post ?

Nothing bad in it that offends anyone on gog forum.
Maybe a quick read of my response up a few posts would be a good idea. :)

Maybe not feeding the trolls would be an even better idea. O.o
Just for reference, the Salvation Army is an actual church, not an organization. Doesn't sound like much of a difference, but from a legal point of view, it is. Being one, they're allowed Freedom of Religion under the Constitution. Like how the Catholic church can only have male priests.

Maybe I agreed in part with his or her post. :)

I've been medically retired for nearly 2 decades and used to do a whole lot of volunteerism in the area. Maybe I got tired of our local politicians using their position to promote their own bigoted and/ or racist views.

Maybe I got tired of seeing our local media totally ignore such acts.

I was trying to stay away from the politically side of all this. That's why I deleted what I had wrote previously.

Especially when their posts get deleted 30 minutes after being made, and yes I know I shouldn't talk. :P

Agreed. We should ignore him/her/them/it whatever troll's preferred gender is.

I feel sorry, no one should have been bullied, assaulted, harassed ... I hope that your life is better now and that you are far from your ex. I myself have been bullied, assaulted, intimidated. But I will always stand against bullying, it is worthy cause even though it sometimes feels like don Quixote charge at windmills.

p.s. Thanks everybody doing something charitable! There is no small good deed. I agree, some charities can be fraudulent, or wasteful. You should pick them carefully.

It is not necessary to be part of charity or to support one to do good. I have helped far more people outside institutions. If I find someone in need, most often I help them on my own and if I conclude that greater help is needed i seek it in community.
