For everything I long to do / No matter when or where or who.

Larian Studios have done it again! Rejoice, you handful of people who haven't yet tried what was arguably the best RPG of 2017, for Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition has arrived, FREE for all owners of the base game. Newcomers can benefit from the 10% discount running until September 9th, 5 PM UTC.

The amount of additions and improvements that it brings is nothing short of staggering, so here's a list which almost does them justice:

- A new Story Mode option for those who don't like spending too much time with combat considerations while enjoying the world and atmosphere. You can alternate between modes at any point.
- New and reworked fights!
- Tutorial expanded to work players through the gameplay specifics more smoothly.
- Tons of new lines recorded for this Edition.
- Significant performance optimization.
- UI changes, journal revamped.

Plus, a mini DLC rides forth with this update: brave brave Sir Lora, the squirrel Knight companion who's dreading the coming of the Great Acorn, will let you become his valiant defender. Previous owners of the game get this DLC for free.

Note: You will be able to choose between the Classic and Definitive Edition from the launcher when you start the game.

candesco: Pretty lame that the dlc's ain't included and people who don't own the game yet have to buy those seperately while people who already own the first release will get one dlc for free. That's not something i'm used from Larian.
That people who already own the game gets the update for free is quite normal. But also a dlc for free, while others have to pay for that is just lame business. No, i just skip this one. I'll wait till there comes a bundle with everything included, just like with Divinity II happened. Have to say that D:OS EE was a better release.

johnsala92: They are just rewarding the people who trusted them from the beginning. It's fair and right if you ask me
Agree. And it's only a new companion character... a bit better than a unique weapon, but certainly not anything groundbreaking.

No, it's not. You punish the people who still wanted to buy it and that's not fair and definitely not right at all.
I only have to look to The Witcher (the first one). When the EE came out existing users did get a free upgrade as well as 2 extras. New users could buy the complete EE version, including the extra's and not that you needed to buy that seperately like what here is the case. That's how it's done.

Reglisse: On steam I get it for free and here I need to buy it XD
I'm an early buyer on Steam and I'm in the first row buyers here on GOG.
You'll get it for free. First time I clicked the DLC link, it said I do not own it. I clicked the game page and it showed it owned there. It showed as owned in the DLC page too after a few seconds.

jmaebe: There's indeed currently an issue causing the existing owners of DOS2 to not get the DLC for free here on GOG. It's being looked into. Don't buy it, you'll still get it.
For everyone asking, read that

Just because it's been done before it doesn't mean it's inherently right.
Buying it now it will cost you much less than what people paid for it on, let's say, day1. Since they believed in the project and the game, and wanted to support the developers from the beginning, the same developers thought that it was right to thank them in some way. Other people who, rightfully so, decided to wait for reviews/discounts just get what they pay for (at a minor price, which is right). You want the updated game? You get it, at a discount. You want a minor DLC? Pay a minor surplus.
It's improving costumer loyaly vs wanting to get as many buyers as possible.
One of the best RPGs of all time and i don't say this lightly. This game has brought me hundreds of hours of entertainment. I have only the best wishes for Larian. Keep the awesome games coming!
Ok it seems like I have to delete some save files from classic edition, as they're all being synced together and it shows that I have over 1800mb in save files and the whole syncing thing works terribly (for this game).

RE: DLC
Yeah I didn't get it at first, but after turning game off it shows in library as owned - so probably small bug on GoG part.
Thanks everyone !
It's all good now ^^

viranimus: Great. Now that DOS2 is complete does that mean we can now get a proper sequel to Divinity complete with all 3 dimensions instead of more isometrics? It has been almost a decade now.
Isometric can still be 3D you know (as is the case with D:OS). :P I guess you would prefer something like Divinity 2, with the camera beside the hero, right? Personally, I'm a big fan of isometric perspective (especially 2D, just like Infinity Engine games or the modern Shadowrun games), so much that i actually consider it mandatory in a cRPG. That said, i hope Larian won't change it in the future.

So how else are they to pay the bills?

They're still taking a major hit with releasing the update for free, unlike FROM software's "upgrade" for their Dark souls series, though owners DO get a permanent -20% discount; still, they don't get nearly as much content!
Are the offline installer files updated to included the Definitive Edition yet? The Changelog only lists an update from May 24th as last change.
Still hoping for a Linux release.
