So, at this year's gamescom we finally got a proper Story Trailer for Sonic Frontiers.
I would say, that the story would probably be the best part of this game, as it will try to go deeper in its themes and lore. And also the script is written by the guy who wrote Sonic comics for many years, which a lot of fans hold in high regard.

How good the other part of the game would be is not so clear. Devs sure introduce many interesting features, like various combat moves and puzzles in the open world. But if those will be fun to play still remains a question. Some gameplay trailers don't really tell much.

Many people disliked graphics, especially the environment being too realistic and thus not blending well with cartoonish Sonic. No especially memorable music was introduced either.

So, what are your thoughts?

I'm a bit surprised, but I feel a bit "Sonic Boom" vibe in here. (ancient civilization + some "mysterious" contraptions etc)

Not saying that it's bad (it was terrible execution and terrible platform (WiiU), which have failed in case of infamous Sonic Boom), but I am a bit surprised, that dev is still trying to enter the... Maybe not the same, but "similar" water.

AS for gameplay, it seems much like things we've already seen in games like Generations or Forces.. Although I appreciate change of scenery.

And I would be actually happy if puzzles will be well made, it's always a nice thing to have those in 3d platformer (of course if they're properly made).
Ian Flynn could be the best writer since Issac Asimov, but will he escape from the clutches of Sega's infamous mismanagement? I'm kind of doubtful.

And after the snog the hog incident, I'm surprised a moratorium wasn't put on princesses in infinite perpetuity. Speaking of, boy what a dissapointment Infinite was, huh? I guess they didn't learn from Muffles the Dark, either. I call him Muffles because they forgot to give him a mouth.

And really, that's the crux. They seem to be making a lot of the same mistakes that they did all that time ago, except this time, it isn't on their side, because the damned project has been spinning wheels for over 5 years. And floating disjointed platforms in what looks like a test level was an awful first impression.

I'll roll out the bullet points:
‣ Sonic once again is getting saddled with an unwarrented progression system.
‣ Once again, the hog finds himself in a strange world instead of the already established strange world.
‣ Code Princess. We have Code Princess.
‣ There's a massive overworld to traverse once again, even though most of it is filler.
‣ Once again, we're asked to take the hooptyfroo world at face value in spite of it supposedly being free of Eggman's influence and more grounded in look than ever before. Why did Gaia decide to put floating rails in the air? Such are the whims.
‣ Sonic's -way-past-cool- attitude is being juxtaposed once again with a story that is trying to give theatrical weight to a living cartoon hedgehog.
‣ Oh, cool. Let's take the character who is entirely about speed, and make him slow down and puzzle things out. That sure worked in Marble Zone, the roadblock that stops most people from seeing the rest of Sonic 1.
‣ While we're back at taking features only from the best and brightest ideas we had, let's put a combat system back in, just to remind people how nice it was to have the free time to deal with tedious games like Sonic Heroes.

Also, I want to know what drugs they're paying the marketing team to write what they did with a straight face.

I'd say the graphics are on par with what comparable games offer.
I also don't think, that the styles clash with each other.
If I was into Sonic, I would wishlist it based on this trailer, and most probably later also buy it.

My 2cts.

Why? Those things already were in the first Sonic Adventure and Sonic Unleashed (also in Sonic Battle and Sonic Chronicles, but those are spin-offs).

Darvond: ‣ Code Princess.
Idk, Merlina was kinda cool. And I really doubt there will be a romance between Sonic and Sage.

Hmm, I guess my memory doesn't serve me well anymore, because I totally forgot about first SA.

I admit that I didn't play in Sonic Unleashed. And that I still had stronger impression of something "in style" of Sonic Boom. Don't know, if it's used aesthethics, or just my weird interpretation of the trailer.
