So the PS5 launched with games containing Denuvo DRM. The "popular" anti-cheat system will be in both online and offline games and Denuco feels not having DRM that "This can lead to lower engagement, game traffic and shrinking revenues for game publishers. We are really proud be able to help the world's most talented developers to bring rich experiences for gamers on Playstation 5."

Wonder how long before people spot performance issues due to the DRM taking up resources.
Oh boy, I guess we'll be having a Doom Eternal round 2 controv-
The company said "a number" of PS5 launch titles already use Denuvo, but it did not say which ones.
Ummm, nevermind.

Considering that in PC peoples milage are extremly differnt (some reporting issues, some do not) depending of hardware, i expect that since PS5 is unifrom (they are all the same) it makes it easier to optimse it towards them so there should not be any isses at all (or at least hops so....)

hah, yes. I did not read the article. Shows how to trust a forum post without reading the source first, makes my first reply irrelevant. Cheers

True, the article doesn't do a good job at separating the two as it goes right into the Denuvo DRM, I read the article again and the way it is written can imply things as it goes from Anti-cheat right into Denuvo DRM.

Denuvo is just anti-tamper... it doesn't care what you use the anti-tamper for and anti-tamper always screws up performance in the end.

In all honesty, anti-cheat is absurdly stupid, since it really means that you're not checking client input server side. Reminds me of an SSH bug where you could login without the password because the server side wasn't doing its job of verifying the client side (https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2018/10/17/serious-ssh-bug-lets-crooks-log-in-just-by-asking-nicely/)

These are security issues on the server side, you should always assume your client is cheating.
Can't wait until sales of the next COD game plummet because nobody wants to play if they can't cheat.

Modern anticheat is DRM+Spyware and it was being baked into Steam or something like it.

Indeed. One can potentially cripple longevity of a game through copy protection and the other can potentially cripple longevity of a game through "Totally Not Copy Protection (tm)"...

It's baked far deeper than that. Denuvo's "Anti-Cheat" works similar to Vanguard in installing a driver at the kernel level:-

"When you start Doom Eternal for the first time, Denuvo Anti-Cheat will install a kernel-mode driver..."
https://www.pcgamer.com/doom-eternals-first-update-includes-denuvo-anti-cheat/

Huge LOL at anyone here saying "It's not DRM" when it basically functions more like Sony Rootkit 2.0, and was quickly removed after being added to Doom Eternal due to massive negative response / review bomb...

Definately not getting a PS5 then. It’s a sad thing that all this is coming round again, pay for streaming platforms for telly, invasive system destroying drm etc. Seen it all before, and all it did then was drive piracy through the roof.
I don't quite understand, why a closed walled-garden system like PS5 would need some kind of 3rd party anti-cheat or DRM system? It is not like PS5 players can run their own cheat programs and cracks on their PS5 console, can they?

I have no idea if e.g. "modding" is still a thing on consoles, like back in the PSOne and PS2 days you could modify your console for copied pirate software and extra features. For instance, I modded my PS2 just so that I could install a hard drive into it, and install (and run) my PS2 games on the hard drive. So much nicer than swapping CDs/DVDs into the unit all the time.
