Ocular.: Thanks everyone for the friendly replys. I'm mostly into RPG games like Diablo. I also like HC games that gives a good challenge and permadeath. Was thinking of trying out the boulders gate series.
Welcome! If you are really into ARPGs, you might want to try out one of the Soldak games. (I've only played Din's Curse, but I've heard they're all more or less the same, in terms of game mechanics -- just some tweaks and added twists with each later game.) They tend to be really customizable, and I assume most of them offer a hardcore mode that imposes permadeath (Din's Curse does, anyway). There are even DRM-free demos for all the base games on the dev's website.

Also, if you're okay with turn-based gameplay and simpler 2D graphics, you might enjoy Tales of Maj'Eyal, which is a roguelike that incorporates some elements more commonly seen in MMOs and ARPGs (heavy focus on cooldowns and hotbars, regular acquisition & comparison of loot). It's also available as freeware, but I think there are some little things only people who buy a copy on Steam or GOG (or donate directly) get access to, and the DLC expansions (which are NOT free) can be used, AFAIK, only with purchased copies.

Finally, I would be remiss if I didn't mention Spelunky, as it is it is the epitome of challenging (but fair!) roguelite platformers. However, if you care about daily challenges (one of the big draws to this kind of game for a lot of people), you'd be better off getting it on pretty much any other platform, including Steam. (However, the GOG version gives you the soundtracks to both the commercial remake and the original freeware version as freebies, so that's nice.)

HunchBluntley: ...Huh? I don't know that the term ever became less widely used (in English, anyway). What on earth would one call them if not "video games"?
"Console games" and "computer/PC games", respectively.

Oh and nowadays also "mobile games", I guess. And Nintendo 3DSSS or Sony Vita something something fall somewhere in between, into the never-ever land (Japan).

Yeah I guess "video games" is still used as some kind of umbrella term maybe, but to me it would seem those other terms have mostly superseded it.

timppu: Someone using that term always takes me back to the 80s where that term was more widely used.

tinyE: Optometrist?

Your name and avatar seem to indicate it. It's of course none of my business. :P

HunchBluntley: You know, you're not really making yourself seem less like a stalker, here. ;)
That reminds me. While I was going through your garbage I couldn't help but notice you aren't recycling.

Seriously man! Separate your cans and paper! Is it that hard!?

Exactly, an umbrella term. I mean, I suppose one could call them "digital games" or "electronic games" or something, but nobody does. As an umbrella term encompassing all PC/console/handheld/mobile games, "video game(s)" is alive and well.
