Zrevnur: I am not sure what you are referring to here. But in case of my example 'GOG' no power was "taken away" from Steam. The power of GOG is due to it attracting people and not due to it (forcibly) taking them away from Steam.
GameRager: And yes, gog does a ton of good, but is has slipped sadly in some ways(no one world price, some countries get censored regional versions, etc).....as Gog has wanted to attract other devs and rights holders they have chosen to sacrifice some of those same pillars they were founded on, all to make a buck/keep in business. Whether this is the right thing to do is up to personal beliefs and such.
Zrevnur: Everything(?) man-made will eventually become corrupted. This doesnt change the value of my argument. Society can be changed because individual people have the motivation (etc) to create change. Its not necessary to convince (or in response to your argument "force") entrenched "old powers" to change.
1st bit: I was talking about power in general, and not just with game storefronts. As for steam/gog, gog takes power away from steam by taking sales away from steam in some cases(due to cheaper prices/drm free/ease of use/backup installers one can archive/etc).
2nd bit: That bit was more of an aside/sidetopic connected a bit to the main topic, and mainly pointing out the flaws in gog as of late.
And no it is not always necessary but in many cases nowadays it is or a big negative PR campaign is(via social media/etc).
(Most power: corporate/gov't/etc has means to keep it's power[laws/money/guns & bodies to bear them] that usually allow them to laugh off or ignore most such peaceful attempts to change the status quo)
