Deuter0s: I'm glad to see this thread becoming more lively after the lull it briefly experienced!
I can't help but feel the performance of Groupees'
Bundle of Independents is evidence that the cynical way in which comics bundles have been curated is finally misfiring. Offering just enough new content in order to make the same audience part with their money once more can only work for so long. It's certainly a great bundle for newcomers but there clearly aren't many of those among Groupees' members.
In sad DRM-related news, I'm unable to buy Alan Moore's
From Hell from comiXology... Because of my location, it won't show up when I search the store and if I follow a Google search result, I get a 'Oops! The content you were looking for is not currently available'. I could get it, DRM-free, directly from Top Shelf's webstore but I'd rather not spread my digital comics collection even further.
Honestly it seems that the comic companies don't put much into hteir online marketing. They seem to be relying on the bundle websites own marketing; which works on something big like Humble Bundle; but for Groupees tends to fail. Whilst their music and comics are generally good Groupee's games are really rather dire a lot of the time.
As a result it is indeed recycling to the same market a lot because they never have a big enough launch that enough noise is made in the community; nor a consistent number to keep their name afloat. Humble keeps getting attention because it has deals and launches that get everyone talking about it so they don't need to market as heavily so long as they keep getting the popular deals.
Groupess needs a huge marketing boost to get the name out to more potential markets. That is partly their responsibility; but I think comic publishers should also be doing their part.
