Born in South Carolina. Though perhaps I heard it from my Brother-in-Law and I'm not sure WHERE he\s actually from. Possibly the midwest.

It's certainly not a term out here (eastern edge of the Northern Plains...which we still call "the Midwest"). My guess would've been "It's a Southern thing," and that seems like it might be the case.
