ddickinson: I won't go into the Anglo-Irish topic too much, as I know the topic is not an easy one to discuss between England and Ireland, often with both sides blindly arguing. But before circumstances got in my way, I was studying for a doctorate in history, close to finishing and beginning my career as a historian, so I have a good understanding of both sides. Sadly both side are only taught a very narrow view of things, both trying to cover their own backs and pass the blame on to the other. Both Britain and Ireland have done horrible things to each other, it's just sad that we can't try to repair that damage and try to progress as friends. What is even more pathetic, is that much of the troubles are caused by religion. Not two vastly different religions, but two Christian religions caught up in old grudges.
Please note: In my comment above, I am not trying to downplay what Britain has done to Ireland, I'm just saying that we have all acted un-laudable. The British Empire achieved some wonderful things, but like any empire, she did some horrible things as well. I am well aware of her bad points, as well as he good points. So please don't think I'm trying to downplay things or cause any arguments or anything like that.
Oh I know the Irish have done some horrendous things in more recent times and I don't believe they are any more forgiveable then anything else that has happened between the two countries. I'm sure you understand both sides better then most due to your interest and studying of history, but in my experience most people here don't even understand the background to the troubles in Northern Ireland, or the part the English played in causing and exacerbating the effects of the famine and I think that's awful.
I think in this case the religion factor is almost a scapegoat. There was animosity there already and it was easy to say the English were protestant and the Irish were Catholics and that was the defining difference between the two sides.
adaliabooks: I do. I just prefer it to IE and Firefox. Why wouldn't you use it?
j0ekerr: Two things first Internet Explorer is not a viable choice, it never was. Second Opera is a better alternative.
I will admit I haven't really used chrome on the PC, however it managed to annoy me on the phone when I saw it accumulated about 300 megs of garbage.
Never really liked Opera... can't say I've spent too much time with it mind.
Yeah, Chrome does hog memory a bit. It took me a while to get used to but once I'd used it for a bit I loved it.
