I think I will snag the 1st two Simons, but one more question: as good as the King's Quest games are, they can be a little too open and you can find yourself wandering aimlessly for hours accomplishing nothing. How does Simon compare in this regard?

That was never a problem in the Simon the Sorcerer games for me. So I think you should be fine :-)
