Yeah, I seem to have largely reverted to my natural state as a lurker... Just been very busy really and things tend to move quickly in here so I just haven't felt like joining in much.

Now that the sale is over, I'd just like to thank everyone who very generously ninja gifted me titles on my wishlist, it's certainly reduced a bit, and my backlog enlarged. I think I'm coming to the end of Dragonfall so it'll soon be time to decide what to play next, that should be fun! :)

In other news, I posted a while back about getting a chiller mat for my laptop due to frequent BSOD's while gaming. And I'd like to report that I haven't had one since using it, so if anyone else has trouble with over heating and such things when gaming on a laptop I can definitely recommend getting one. I'm really impressed with how quiet it is too, I usually don't even notice the fans are on.

And also, while away for the weekend I got some magazines to read while travelling, one of them was PC Gamer which came with a Steam code for Total War Shogun 2 (something something, some kind of stand alone expansion I think), and while not really using Steam much I've always wanted to give Total War a go so I redeemed the code this morning, only to find the game is 15GB.... :/
Now I remember why I don't play new games often...

Well let's see. I visited Kreuzberg, the Tempelhofer Feld, Bendlerblock, Sanssouci in Potsdam and the Wannsee over the course of both days. Never visited any of these before.

But the time was definitely too short. I think of visiting Berlin again later in the Summer.

No idea what Day of Defeat Source is to be honest, and it's above the budget I had anyway.

Finally run into a frustrating part of Dead Effect. Level three opens up by having (by my estimation) about 20 zombies (including 3 or 4 bullet sponges) attack you as soon as the door to the tiny room you're in opens, they come flooding in and all you can do is try to clear out the sides and run. Okay, once you get it through your head that you can't kill all those zombies you run and get to an area with a locking door behind you. Safety! No wait, it's your typical "the air is poisoned and constantly hurting you, go find the button for the ventilation" room. Okay, no problem, but again the only path is entirely blocked by a huge amount of zombies, some who can eat an entire tube of shotgun shells. I've yet to get past this point.

So far the positives and negatives

Positives:
Solid controls
Good graphics
Good voice acting
Decent gunplay (when not fighting bullet sponges)
Neat special powers

Negatives:
Incorrect vocal sound effect (gasping for air) for the female character
Obnoxious music
Sudden (and cheap) difficulty spikes
Player character walking with arms in front of them like a zombie in the beginning of the game
