I'm feeling frustrated, and convinced more than ever, that it's not a matter of age, but of goddamn reluctance to learn anything.

I tried to teach my mother to access the calls registry on her mobile because she has a ton of missed calls which she ignores since she doesn't know how to check them. That can create some restlesness in the caller when after two hours and a dozen missed calls they still don't get any sort of reply.

I was down to using Sesame street concepts, up down left and right. I even had to explain how the word received differentiates from missed. At which point she made a dumbfounded face as if it was too strange an idea to grasp.

Finally after she confused up and down for the umpteenth time she whined that this was too complicated for her and threw it away.

adaliabooks: Hey everyone.

As you may or may not know, I made a search / filter script to help with the Mafia games and I've been working on expanding it for more general use on the forums.

The first version is done, and is available here. Let me know what you think :)
Mafia?

Would that make Hyper Don Vito?

Is he going to make me an offer I can't refuse?

GhostwriterDoF: I wouldn't say it's "weird" by your style of composing is unusual because the works thus far doesn't have definitive movements, which is expected by most ears... might be why your associate thought it lacked a "story". :)
avatar
Vnlr: Indeed, it's a little quirk. I work with about 4-6 little themes/tunes/melodies throughout each those pieces, and I ussually stick to them and repeat them, let them play at the same time, do some variations, ... .

I much try to stick to the same feeling throughout one single movement. I've tried some things (pieces) with mood swings in them, but those are the first pieces I ever wrote, and they are rather unremarkable/not quite satisfactory.
.... edit: and pointing out once again, my sources of musical knowledge are:
-"music theory for dummies"
-"counterpoint for beginners"
-4 months of studying the above

I don't mean to be butthurt, for the record ;) , but I don't expect to be an instant member of the wolf gang :p
You created the dark moods splendidly, and without being repetitive to a point that puts the ear in a dilemma, like some game soundtracks that can grate the nerves... and though you may not be a ranking member of the wolf gang, you are certainly a composer. ;)

When it comes to artistic expression, it's ok not to do what is expected, especially when you are creating things for yourself. When you are trying to create things that you want to sell, then that can be a hindrance, if your particular style is suited more to you than appeals to the many.

But it can be rewarding to do your own thing and find it appeals to others, whether the few or the many, as we should expect art to prompt some sort of reaction, positively or negatively.

Greetings!

How's your day going? And anything special planned for the weekend?

edit. Oh, nice I see you've been working on that script and making it an even more useful function for searching in general. Good work!

Some people just have an aversion to technology, or certain things that they just go blank when it is in front of them. It might be better just to use the proper words for the functions instead of trying to find other ways to describe the features and functions. That way at least if you keep using the words, those you are trying to reach will eventually get used to hearing those words, and add them to their "stored vocabulary". heh!

Yes, but using what device?

madth3: Perhaps cosmetic is not the right word as it can imply it's just a matter of preference.

I meant changes related to presentation which are finally controlled by the rendering in the browser and can therefore be altered in the browser as BE and other scripts have done in the past.

- Expand the text box. (Permanently, not the same as you asked but a tradeoff and easier to do)
- Don't grey older messages
- Make the indicators of new messages next to each contact more visible and readable.
- Increase the overall usable area to make it more desktop-friendly.
- Adjust the contacts area and the size of avatars and usernames (make them smaller).
- Increase the messages area, and adjust the size of avatar and username (make them smaller).

Providing ordering options is what I would call a functional change which might require a server-related solution.
Changing the behaviour of "Enter" is functional too but it could be fixed in the browser.
I'd call them usability issues. Thanks for elaborating.

GhostwriterDoF: I hope you have a good game controller, as a back out-of-whack can put a crimp in your game...
and that your weekend will be a healing one. :)

<packs a bunch of pillows around Hyper >
*gets all comfortable in the pillows*

Ah, much better, thank you so much.

I don't have a controller, good or bad. *ducks*
But I'll most likely play an adventure game, taking lots of breaks.

I'll check the new version out over the weekend.

BTW, you're offline, you know that?

moonshineshadow: Urgh... you are so unfair. Why should you be able to ninja gift me, while I am gone and can't return the favour? :P
avatar
ddickinson: But it's not my fault if the sale happens while you are away. And as for being unfair, is it not unfair that we can't gift you but you can still gift the majority of us? :-)

Also, I found out what game you were talking about, but as you seemed to want to keep it secret, I will not gift you the game, I will let this gifting opportunity Escape me. ;-)
*big hug* Late reply... but yeah, seems like I need to decide this weekend what to do with all this friend and wishlist stuff...
And also *thank you hug for not gifting* I am not sure yet, I am really interested in the game and it does not really have a nice discount.

If you can figure out what that makes Hyper you're a better man than I...
But for info on what I'm talking about see , and the current game [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/general/gog_forum_mafia_27_gameshow_showdown_the_game]here.

No need to duck... you anti-console person! :P

I had to get one because I was getting some tendonitis, so it helped a lot with that, though I prefer to use a keyboard and mouse, but GoG has a lot of games that can use controllers natively. If you ever consider getting one, the Logitek no vibration one is inexpensive and works well.

Hey, I'm fine thank you. How are you?

Nothing special no, have some work to do but that's about it.

Thanks :)

No problem, hope you like it :)

Yeah.. I tried to search on this thread and it totally killed GoG for me... :/
Had to clear my cookies and history to get it to work again, so that's probably why.

Anyone else getting a weird bug where the last page numbers on favourite threads are listed as the number of posts rather than pages? :/
Hope I didn't break GoG....

What's this whole console vs pc thing anyway?

I mean, I don't own any consoles or controllers (except for a joystick), but I've seen glimpses of an all out full scale war pop up here and there? :)

Is it just the fact that publishers push for more console games which they lazily port to pcs so they can make larger heaps of money, and the pc crowd being upset about that?

If I go into Galaxy via the icon on my desktop I can check to see who sent me a 'chat' but I still see no way to PM. What's worse is I got an update notification but I see no earthly way to download the added patch. :P
I hope, they will fix Friend invite soon.

Doing fine here too.

I don't think you can break GoG at the moment since it is being experimented on... I'm using Explorer right now and I see the page numbers as [p: 1 - 37241] for the FFA Thread. heh! so it's not you.

Oh dear, someone called jorg hopfgarten is "following" me on soundcloud :s

I would prefer not to attract to much attention really, or is that someone from 'round here perhaps?
