ddickinson: I have another long week ahead of me, well another few long weeks. But at least it is not raining heavily today, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and I am in a very happy mood still after the weekend.

*even more big happy hugs*
Well... Good luck with your ton of work to do, DD...
(and not surprised, you're always in a good mood, no matter what... :-))

moonshineshadow: *big hug*
I am disappointed by gog. The changes suck and I really hate how they are trying to sell it to us as something good, that has been done because of the users here wanting it and that it is all for the best. When in reality they are just forcing the galaxy client look on us.
Of course they do... It seems like GOG will look and work like STEAM... :-| ... sheesh.
avatar
ElTerprise: Hey. *returns hug* I'm good how are you?
Moon posted that they're working on it ...but the changes suck....Chat's impractical...the new library disappointing...and you're forced towards Galaxy...
Yes... I agree... :-(
I hope everything will be improved soon... (where is the suggestion box, again ?...)
I'm fine, thanks !! :) for a Monday...

CarrionCrow: That's understandable, the new look is extremely basic at the moment. Think I saw them mention something about setting up different themes to make it look nicer.
Doesn't particularly bother me, since the pile is a combined reminder of people's kindness and my own straight-up insanity when it comes to acquiring more items, which I can no longer even begin to bullshit myself over, given 17 godsdamned pages of orders, most of them done within the last 18 months.

Waiting for the dust to settle on the entire setup, really. GOG has a small crew and they're trying to build something that the competition, who has a hell of a lot more money and people, are still updating all the time.

I'm happy to hear you're feeling recharged. Fingers continue to be crossed that your extremely heavy workload will be reduced to a more reasonable level in the very near future.
I agree about waiting for things to settle down, I just wish the changes did not take so much away and make everything so inconvenient for those who don't use Galaxy.

Thank you. Hopefully this week will be a little easier, as slowly we are getting things in place. But probably not, things always seem to crop up that give us more work. :-)

ElTerprise: Yeah seems so. But i fear it destroys the community we had here and i don't want to have a Steam forum copy here....
But GOG clearly wants rid of the Good Old Gamers, and instead wants to be more like Steam. From a money point of view it makes sense, but will it be sustainable when this place becomes just like Steam? Surly when people have a choice between two Steams, they will go with the real one that has cheaper games and a wider selection. Yes GOG has DRM free, but how long before they give up on that principle, or until customers no longer want to put up with GOG and are willing to accept the DRM on Steam?

avatar
ElTerprise: Yeah that really annoys me...and as you mentioned earlier....the page for GOGdownloader is buried somewhere and looks hideous...
I know, there is no real indication of anything. Hopefully this is just early bugs that will be sorted as the system is fully implemented. But I can see them keeping it that way to "persuade" users to use Galaxy. As someone said, it seems silly to invest all this time and money in an "optional" client.

moonshineshadow: We can still do that, I just sent you a message explaining how to make a line break ;-)
Sadly I think your line break broke the chat, as I can't see your message due to the chat text box (see attached image).

I am not always in a good mood, but it does take something big to take the smile off my face. After my little incident a few years ago I learnt to just enjoy life and look on the bright side, rather than letting many of the little things or things we can't change get me down. Plus I have someone incredible at home that always puts a huge happy smile on my face, no matter how hard things might be.

*Big return hug with lots of coffee, cake, and cookies.*

Kind of. That has pushed the previous message up, but it has cut off the bottom of the text a little, and the new message is completely covered by the chat text box again. Hopefully it is just a bug (or maybe it would display correctly in Galaxy?). I miss the PM system already. :-)

I agree. But i think for the most people DRM is not problem which means they'll using steam instead of GOG. Of course is the DRM-FREE a unique selling point for GOG but only matters for a minority of gamers i think (which is sad...).
Yeah it's obvious that they want to get everyone to use galaxy.

"Great!" ... Perhaps you should post that in the new account system thread? I am not sure they even know that it is bugged.

Nobody wants that... :-(
Why would have we chosen GOG, otherwise ?...

Bottom line, every online community has to deal with assholes, whether sooner or later. The decent people are outnumbered a hundred to one, and that's an optimistic estimate there.
Eventually, there will be enough of them that GOG will end up with full-on moderators to police it, like so many other places online have to do.

It seems to be a bug for the browser I was using, which admittedly is a quite outdated version of Firefox. So possibly it's just my fault, as it works on other browsers.

Good morning :)
That's true but untily now the GOG community was one of the nicest community i knew from those i have experience with and getting it towards moderation etc...would be a real pity...

That's my point. When GOG does just turn into something similar to Steam, will they just lose their customer base, as the older customers will probably leave (as some already have, or spoken about), and as the newer ones going back to Steam once this place is full of the kind of people that make Steam so horrible. Steam has better prices, often better sales, and more choice in games, so it would seem the logical choice between to go to Steam over GOG in that situation. I guess as long as GOG games work and they offer good support and zero DRM, maybe that will be enough.
