Smoking is a dangerous habit.

I'm setting landmines to catch one of the magi's delivery pages and hold him hostage, in exchange for one of the camels carrying the presents.

So of course I will get lots of them.
It's more secular than religious. It's all about the gift-giving, just like Santa Claus. Of course there are masses at church, but I don't think all that many people bother or even care.

Both are celebrated, but the epiphany itself is the big day. That's the national hoiday. Today, everything's open and there's a frenzy of last minute shoppers. Today's the day for watching the parade, eating the traditional roscón, and putting the children to sleep.

Well we only live once,and most of us have some sort of a bad Habit:-)

Well, I don't go to the church either-I might watch a bit of the liturgy from the TV-as the channels tend to show it as it happens on different parts of Greece-but that's it. (Note to self: I should really go the church more often.) But indeed, the nature of the holiday is certainly more religious here than in Spain, as seen from what you've said. Btw, that roscón you traditionally eat seems like bread with whipped cream inside. I wonder how it tastes... I suppose like tsoureki would if it had whipped cream inside... :-)

I just had some marmite, spread on toast.

It's every bit as horrendously tasty as I remember. And I still love it.

I need to go out and buy that roscón. Pictures will be uploaded once I get it.

And to our thread aussies, link me to some good vegemite recipes.

I don't think I've ever tasted either marmite or vegemite, and I can't say they appeal. However we used to use Bovril (which as I understand is basically a meaty equivalent) in stews or bologneses to enrich the sauce or gravy. I imagine they would work for that. I also hear they work well as an ingredient to bread if you bake (and if you don't you should, home made bread is the best). Again, I've never actually tried it, but I do put malt extract in bread or pizza dough sometimes and it's lovely so I imagine it would work.

To me it's like a cauldron...

I don't eat it myself, but I believe it is yeast extract.. (whatever that means)

According to the Discworld books it's like a reduced beer stock. .. but I'm not sure how accurate that is.
