ddickinson: The forum here is nice, and I have not heard the best of things about the Steam forum.

ElTerprise: Yeah. The overall atmosphere here on the forum was probably the main point that i started posting on the forum :).
I occasionally wonder how "our rivals" are doing :)
Is it that bad?

I only started noticing when I participated in this topic. I used too only lurk about a bit when I need troubleshooting info for issues with a game. But even then you can easily see the superfluous amount of crapul hanging about on steam.

Nah i don't feel bad. :) and to your steam forum question. it's full of 12 year old cursing Call of Duty players... It's hell on earth for any sane human being.

Vnlr: Hehe, I had quite a laugh when I saw it lying bellow said games.

I have quite a few games lying arround that might make it into a museum someday. I was born in '96 though, so I missed out on some really great titles from those days (which doesn't keep me from trying to get my hands on as many classics as I can). Unfortunately at some point a decade and more ago, mommy (a psychologist, figures) had the splendid idea of making my father throw away all his old "violent" games because they might have a bad influence on us. Down the thrashcan (literaly -_-) went Commanche, TIE fighter, G-police, Dark forces, Descent, Red Alert, Unreal, Duke 3D and many, many others ;~;
Born in '89 i also missed on some great games as my family isn't really into games....I'll try to catch up with these too :).

It's great to be in a community without those ugly side-effects like on steam ;).

ok good (to the first)
and oh no, to the second... I almost shivered and felt kinda nauseous. I like children okay, as long as they behave. But the problem cases... I tend to feel like shouting something :) "In my youth, we lived in a bleeding cardboard box in the middle of the road! have you no shame! our games consisted of trying not to get killed by the ongoing traffic! " :p

It sounds like you have been having a very nice time. And nice to hear you have unearthed long lost treasures of the past. I still have my Total Annihilation discs somewhere, a very fun game that holds up pretty well, IMO. At least it lets you change resolution, unlike many of the other RTS games at the time. And it still works pretty well for me on Windows 7, which is nice. I still bought it again on GOG, just so I have a back up.

I really am so sorry to hear that. I wish there was something I could do for you. All I can offer are lots and lots of virtual hugs and someone to talk to should you ever need to.

*Lots and lots of big hugs for the wonderful and charming Endre*

That is one of my all time favourite games ever. I know some people hate it, but I have always loved it. It was my first game on the Play Station 1, and the first Japanese RPG that I played.

How are you doing today?

*Morning hug*
I prefer X but I still love VII and VIII and I'm doing fine today.

Good morning :). How are you doing?
I gave the starcraft II demo a whirl a few days ago. I wasn't very optimistic but it still left a profoundly negative impression. And after looking up some gameplay vids it rather seems like a twitch-over-wits like RT"S" game. I heard all the fuss and it appears as no. 1 on nearly every top 10 rts game list, but it doesn't at all appear to be the kind of game I'd appreciate :/

I like to think of myself mainly as a strategy gamer who can also get a fair amount of enjoyment out of a decent RPG or shooter. but these current day RTS's, as far as I still keep up with today's video game world's developments, just seem bland and oriented towards spastic RSI-inducing build-order-loremaster gameplay.

Isn't the point of being a "strategy" game inducing unpredictable difficult battlefield situations which require thoughtfull action and a good portion of wits (and, as the saying goes "not quite enough time") to sort out for the better? (open for debate :p )

The game which does RTS warfare best (as well as economic management), still is Kohan in my opinion.

I thought Starcraft was always more twich than strategy.
Just rush the opponent with not a care in the world and win instead of,you know, planning a strategy in a strategy game.

Moin! I'm feeling good, slept a whole five hours, so I'm rested up.

How is the world turning for you this weekend?
(I haven't caught up on all the pages of post in this Thread, yet...)

Agreed. That's why i'm not compatible with Starcraft and i tried both 1 and 2... (well Story is okay but skirmish or multiplayer...)

Good to hear. My neck pain mostly gone by now (started yesterday evening) and i'm reading some articles about the remunicipalisation of the power grid in Hamburg and the topic of urban sprawl for university...

And good day to you too! Hope you're having a good weekend.

As far as RTS games go, they all seem to have their little quirks. I'm happy if the AI can find their
way around the terrain effectively and that they can advance their units through tech trees...
StarCraft II looked good, but I 'm waiting for a DRM Free version to be released before I get it.

By the by, and interesting composer and music you linked a fine call for a morning wake up. :)
