Make Hong Kong’s shadows their seediest yet. Catch it on tape. Exchange for valuable goods.

We’re not sure if you’ve heard, but the freshly released Shadowrun: Hong Kong is here and has its very own level editor, all set to take on your cyberpunk-crazy creativity - and so are we.

We want you to create and tell your own short story with the Shadowrun: Hong Kong level editor, make a highlights video of it, post the video in a comment below with a few words on why your story is amazing, and be ready to share it with the crowds.

We will shortlist the Top 10, and from those - run a community vote to select the winning three, who will get to grab some truly amazing prizes and have their fan-made levels added to Shadowrun: Hong Kong game goodies!

Before you let your creativity run wild, here’s some guidelines to stick to:

-- The highlights video must be no longer than 3 to 5 minutes
-- The story must be your original work
-- The story must be complete, with a beginning and end
-- We’re limiting entries to one submission per person
-- Offensive/hateful content will be disqualified
-- Make it exciting, challenging and fun!

What about the prizes? You’ll be thrilled to hear that they’re pretty awesome! Keep in mind, though, that due to production times, Shadowrun swag will arrive at your doorstep towards the end of the year.

1st place:
-- Limited edition Shadowrun: Hong Kong messenger bag
-- Limited edition Shadowrun: Hong Kong action figure set
-- 5 GOG.com $9.99 game codes
-- Level added to game goodies

2nd place:
-- Limited edition Shadowrun: Hong Kong action figure set
-- 4 GOG.com $9.99 game codes
-- Level added to game goodies

3rd place:
-- Limited edition Shadowrun: Hong Kong messenger bag
-- 3 GOG.com $9.99 game codes
-- Level added to game goodies

We’ll award honorable mentions to those that make the Top 10, but miss the podium - they’ll each get 1 GOG.com $9.99 game code.

At your requests, we’re extending the contest deadline to Monday, September 21st, 9:59am GMT (11:59am CEST / 5:30am EDT / 2:30am PDT) to post your entries. We aim to shortlist winners by Thursday, September 24th, and run the vote on the Top 10 until Monday, September 28th.

Good luck, everyone!

Mordereth: Assuming less then 10 submit, I assume they'll just proceed to voting procedures on those who submitted--it's not inconceivable I'll be finished by then, and someone else might drop their submission in late too.
Yes, but according to the rules, the deadline to submit your entries is already over.

Granted, they might be lenient in this case as there was only one entry, but unless they say as such, TheSadDragon is the sole winner by default.

I'm imagining their silence is in part because they don't know how to address the lack of submissions.

They can't just not give out the prizes (although technically speaking there's not a download for old-shadows and it's not 3 minutes long so they could be pedants and say 0 submitted). Something's going to be done.

Anywho, we'll see how it pans out--I encourage others to continue working and post their stuff here regardless. It'll help us learn and usher in a new UGC era in SRR history ;3
Assuming I come in the top 3 the question is still valid. I get all the goodies though the kickstarter (with the exception of the game codes and the main prize of being added to the game goody bag). So glossing over the rules I more read the question like: If you win, what will you do with your duplicates.

I did think about it. One though I had was that GOG might be able to select one of the others in the top 10 and pass it along, another one was to give them away to some of my more crazy shadowrun friends who didn't get to back. That said, having two messenger bags would be sweet.

All I really was after was the get the UGC added to the game goodies.

Also: This!

More UGC's for the people!

I assumed the real prize for you would be getting your UGC added to the Goodies, but I was still curious what you would do about the other prizes. I am glad to hear that you are willing to pass the swag along to others.
Oh definitely. As you astutely observed I had the opportunity to pledge enough for the swag and more during the kickstarter but not everyone could, so for some this contest might have been their chance to get a hold of the swag.

Just wouldn't feel right about depriving people of the chance. Better to get some good qi flowing for all the chummer in here :)
Anyone else experienced an issue with spawning player companions from green nodes, the 1st one spawned becomes an "alternative party leader" of sorts--it lets you make one freemode move, but the moment you come to the end of it control\camera focus swaps back to the other character, then vice versa?

I know it's just the first one because I have two greenspawned (actually templates) ai companions in these scene. The 2nd one I placed doesn't do this, he does exclusively follow his greenspawned friend though.

I'd almost break down and call it a feature except it fucks with camera placement and puts you out in blackspace when I utilize teleport doors on one character and it brings them all put puts the camera where the other used to be (I have a teleport camera command, it executes and then the one to move to the other character does).

Oh and I get a similar problem when I have non-passive NPCs using Paths. Haven't managed to google-fu a solution up, it's a hard thing to distill into searchable terms.

Try this thread, perhaps it will yield some result.

Perhaps, although the most preferable solution would be not having to worry about the camera because the game wasn't forcing round-robin character control.

I'yL lurk more, all the threads are around 2013 vintage but there's some good stuff to be had--I probably just haven't phrased my question correctly yet.

TheSadDragon: Contest Entry: old.shadows

Youtube: old.shadows highlight video

old.shadows is a story about betrayal and vengeance.
Your choices will have consequences on how the story plays out, culminating in multiple different endings.

Will you be forgotten or will you thrive in the shadows, the choice is up to you.
Congrats, TheSadDragon - you're the only entrant, and thus the 1st place winner, of the contest! Your story was awesome, we truly did enjoy watching and re-watching the video you created, and we're excited to receive the level file to add to the game's goodies! Please send your postal address and the file itself to contest@gog.com :)

However, since I hear that some others were in progress of working on their own short stories, I don't want to stop that creativity - plus, we still have at least two prizes to give away! My suggestion is that you continue working on the levels, and I'll check back with you guys in a month - Friday, October 23rd - to see if we can select some more winners or if the level editor has truly defeated us all (well, all but TheSadDragon, at least!).

How does that sound?
Many thanks, merciful moderator--with an extra month I can make something far more refined.

UGCs for the UGC god!

Alternatively,
the UGCs must flow.

Will do!

I'm currently out of town for work but I'll send you the email as soon as I get back home. Hope that's OK. :)

Sounds great to me, and to quote Mordereth: The UGCs must flow!

Quick question though, is it OK if I continue to polish on some stuff on my UGC after I send you the current version? Maybe replace the current version with the polished one when you add all the other fantastic UGC come the end of October :)

Edit: Ignore that last part. Will have 1 weekend to work the entirety of this month so baring any bugs I'd say the version i sent in is final :)

Back in town and everything is now fixed up and should be in the mail.

Let me know if the attachment messed with the mail server, and we'll find a workaround :)

Good luck to all my fellow runners out there striving to hit that deadline.

Do your best Chummers, and remember--ctrl+s is your friend :D
I managed to fix a critical bug fucking with companion functionality. I know it's passed-due but the video should be up sometime Thursday night.
Well shit I didn't even know about this, hence my lack of submission, damn if only I knew :((
