Why is it that I have to come across this, while bumbling around the Internet?

Check out the teasers lower down the page, using the sliders to view the differences.

https://www.ea.com/en-gb/games/command-and-conquer/command-and-conquer-remastered#teaser-1

All the sprites are clearly redrawn, but it still looks like they added a cheap scaling filter over crisper graphics.

UPDATE 1: The music is also getting remastered, check out the difference between the old and the new: youtube video.

UPDATE 2: A nice video, by Jim Vessella(producer on the remaster project) about the steps he took to find an absolute treasure trove of C&C assets, including hopefully the original FMVs for the games: youtube clip. At the end you can check out a remastered video clip, as it will appear in the final version.

SPOILERS/TL;DR: Unfortunately, there are no higher quality versions of the FMVs, so they ended up using an AI algorithm to upscale the old DOS/PlayStation FMV videos. :(

UPDATE 3: I discovered on RockPaperShotgun, that the trailer for the Remaster has been released: youtube video. Some more hints as to how the final version of the games will be packaged.

UPDATE 4: sanscript, discovered an article on polygon. Apparently the voice actress Kia Huntzinger, is re-recording her EVA lines for the remaster. For those that might worry, Jim Vessella has made it clear that: "players will have the option of choosing Huntzinger’s remastered EVA voice-over, or the original audio."(youtube video)

UPDATE 5: Pre-order packages have been made available:
Command and Conquer Remastered Collection: Special Edition($60)
Command and Conquer Remastered Collection: 25th Anniversary Edition($150) contains painted PVC Tesla Coil and Obelisk replicas(with light and sound), and metal Mammoth Tank replica.

I find the penis vehicles shooting missiles to the left hilarious. Other than that, it's actually really ugly.
It’s not about what you can see, more about the other bits you can’t. For instance real money is needed to buy Tiberium. Factories only produce boxes, you then have to pay to see what was built. Kane has been replaced by Ronaldo etc.

They are supposed to be recon bikes and yeah it looks horrible.

Why any part of the c&c community is getting excited by this is beyond me.

A "friend" of mine who runs a certain c&c renegade modding group thinks this remaster will mean the rebirth of c&c as a franchise and all these wonderful things will happen and EA will become nice blah blah

I don't know what's horrible about it. It looks pretty faithful to the original design. It'll be nice to retire the poor re-releases that has plagued my system for years.
Yea, it looks a bit crude.

You sir, have got it goin' on.

I can see now, players opening war chests, trying to get that commander that will provide a bonus to all troops and allow for an outstanding, curbstomp victory.

Messi.
Call me crazy, but this doesn't look much better to me. I almost prefer the original look. It's as if it just reveals its age more? For a remaster I think they should've gone all out if possible, adding extra special effects, like explosions lighting up the terrain, trees swinging in the wind etc. Of course that would've been a lot more work. Eh, will have to try it to see

Haha, I suppose Messi would have to be GDI.

All I can remember from the original C&C was sandbagging everything and the quote:
"Vvvveeehhicclle ready!" - actually said like that, all drawn out.
Oh yes, and it was the first thing I tried compress across 3.5" floppy discs back in the day.

He's certainly setting himself up for disappointment since it has to compete with:
- Warcraft III, that was and is much bigger than any C&C-game ever was, is getting a remaster.
- The original Starcraft had a remaster that doesn't do that well outside of Korea, but still bigger than any C&C.
- And not to forget Starcraft II, the big Goliath of the already small competitive RTS-scene.

But sure, the low-effort cash grab by EA will redeem the company and bring C&C back to a vital state against titles it never had any chance against even during peak popularity. Not to forget that the franchises it has to compete with have strong brand recognition that has been hammered into the public conscience for the past 10 years while C&C has been dead for the past 10 years.

The naiveté of that statement triggered me immensely. I apologize beforehand if all the text is one big mess due to my fever.

You think that is triggering? He tried to argue that I was blaming the EA development staff for the corporate decisions. (Which I wasn't) He also tried to suggest that "there are people who actually care about games at EA" (which wasnt my point, I was talking about how EA as a corporate entity views games and how it views customers.)

He then made two statements that made me want to strangle him:
1. "You have become jaded and bitter about EA, open up! they are TRYING to be different! this is proof of it Jim Vasella CARES ABOUT C&C :) "

2. "You also just don't understand the games industry like I do."

I should add that this friend works at a major UK studio and since then he has become a corporate kiss ass, when this remaster was announced he started WHORING C&C Rivals on twitter to the point where I had to block him for 3 months.

And another thing I've stumbled upon:

The music is getting a remaster(youtube video).

Some nice improvements there.
