Looks like I'm not the only one who thought of Alone in the Dark 1.

Indeed, the only thing that could make the description more AitD-like is if the main character was called Edward Carnby.

Gameplay also appears to be the same but until I see it in action I will assume it could be different too. Anyway this has picked my interest.
