Hot spot indicator? What sorcery is this?!

Simon the Sorcerer & Simon the Sorcerer 2: 25th Anniversary Edition are coming soon, DRM-free to GOG.com.
He can be arrogant. He can be obnoxious. He can drive your favorite fairytale characters nuts. If that wasn't enough, he's now also enhanced for his 25th Anniversary! Sporting a modernized control scheme, upscaled visuals, new animations and the option to mix and match all the cool new features with those of the original versions, Simon is back and ready to point & click his way into infamy once more.

The Anniversary editions will be released on April 3rd. The original versions will be removed from sale and added to these as a bonus goodie.
Each Anniversary Edition will cost 8.99 USD.
Owners of the original games will get a 50% discount on them.
Getting both Anniversary editions will grant you a 10% bundle discount.

Hey GOG, any particular reason you didn't add the info about the price and the discount for owners of the originals to the German forum?

SirPrimalform: Yeah, I would question why GOG is bothering but it's possible they don't have any choice to simply keep selling the originals. It's either carry this rubbish (with the originals as a bonus) or don't sell Simon 1+2 at all.
You're not saying that GOG made this choice out of concern of preserving the originals, are you?

MojoTouch quite likely looked at those "10,000+" installs from GooglePlay and thought they could makes some easy $$ bringing their lazy 5yrs old mobile ports to PC. And GOG will make more selling these than they did selling the originals (something tells me that they'll come regionally priced too), the sales of which should be low as it is by now.

lostwolfe: [...] [edited, about five minutes later: i kept calling them mojosoft. they're really mojotouch. plus: fly-by-nightness confirmed. this is their only release, and i'm almost willing to bet that they do mainly ios/android games, given the name of the studio. suspicion confirmed: [see attachment]]

[editedit: folks, brace yourselves. their games are...very appy. and they did a flight of the amazon queen "remaster." that will be incoming at some point, too, i'm sure.]
*checks out attachment*

Looks like the saying Jack of all trades, master of none couldn't be more true in their case... I particularly like the mention of DRM.

Nope. Just that those would be their two options. If the current rights holder wants to sell their "remaster" then GOG only realistically has two options: "yes" or "no". The originals as a standalone product would come off the store regardless, it's about deciding which of the available options you dislike less.
By the way, I'm not advocating either particularly. If you feel like they should have taken a stand and said no then fair enough, I'm not going to argue.

These look horrendous. They've just slapped a cheap filter over the pixel art graphics. Why would you remove the proper versions for this?

Guys, Simon the Sorcerer is on discount in today's special sale! Go get it! Now or never!!

Well, i own StS 1+2 here on GOG already, so i don't really care, but oh boy, that is quite ridiculous.

Seriously, save the $4.50 and buy yourself a tube of lube instead of these pointless insulting "remastered" poc's. It would be a much better purchase. Not only can you smear it all over your screen to get the genuine "remastered" MojoTouch experience, but you can use it to touch your mojo in different, new and exciting ways. You get soo much more for your money...

Breja: That's interesting, and indeed does make the remaster seem pointless. Still, I'm not going to grab the original now (out of cash to spend on games, I was supposed to buy nothing during the St. Patricks Sale but in the end I did) and it won't be available later on, so I'll probably just get the remaster once it's heavily discounted.
ORIGINALS HEAVILY DISCOUNTED, REPEAT ORIGINALS HEAVILY DISCOUNTED

These games haven't been on a sale for over a year and then, precisely this week, they go -75%.

Looks like someone at GOG is paying attention.

i think it's great that these are coming here and the quality of life changes are nice but that hideous smooth-o-filter can fuck right off. i went over my brothers house the other day and he had his laptop hooked up to the tv playing chrono trigger and it had a similar vaseline effect. i was like "dude did you actually spend money on that awful rerelease? you could have burned your money, i think that would have been better" and he was all "nah dude, it's just snes9x with a rom file and supereagle hq 3x hideousness" or whatever. and i was just like.... "why?!"

Yep, I already grabbed the original as soon as I saw it :)

It really is a shame how half-assed this 25th anniversary edition turned out. They could've used that opportunity to let this classic shine in a new light and give the character new life but nah, they decided to crap all over it.
Too bad StoryBeasts couldn't make their Simon project happen. At least that group of people seemed really passionate about it unlike Mojotouch.

Grabbing the original of the second game before this gets pulled from sale. I don't like this policy of removing originals when remasters appear. Please just give us the option to choose..

vulchor: (...) So don't be going around saying things to the contrary, it's completely false. That's something that can be said objectively, it's not opinion. You can not like the outcome, but that means that you don't agree with the original design choices either and the original sketches.
Hey hey, relax man, I didn't mean to make this personal. Full Throttle is my absolute favorite adventure game as well, which is why I was so afraid of this happening after having seen what already happened with Grim Fandango.

You might not have noticed them, but that doesn't meant that they're not there, because they really are, and independent of configuration. The Double Fine guys even acknowledged most of these bugs (after I've reported them) and decided not to spend some extra time on fixing them, but close them instead. This is not an opinion.

An example of a design change in comparison to the classic is the shot in which Ben celebrates smacking down the first Rottwheeler by doing a wheelie. The direction of the clouds in the classic added to the feeling of speed, whereas this is gone in the remaster. Same goes for the whole intro scene by the way.

Edit: And I just found out from the link that apparently even some dialogue between Maureen and Ben is missing from the remaster...

Oh hey. The original, unbastardized Simon 2 is now $1.49, mere days before it's supposed to be removed and replaced with an inferior, yet more expensive version.

So this wasn't some kind of Springtime for Hitler-type scenario as I had suspected. They *really* thought this crap would impress us.

That's just sad.

EDIT: Might as well grab Feeble Files too while I'm at it - since that may be next for the chopping block. I'm assuming Adventuresoft doesn't have the game's original high-res 3D renders anymore - so I can only dread how a "remaster" will look.

karelinov: Its sad thats GOG is lowering its standarts. Selling filtered old picture as remaster... Especially with the fact SCUMMVM can do the same with several different filters on your choice... This crap should be selled on Steam, not here...

Fortunately I already bought series
Wow, indeed that it is really sad what GOG is doing, this 25th Anniversary Edition is a scam! I'm glad I've bought the original games now that are on discount at the moment while you still can. Even though you will still get these games as part of the bonus goodies when this new edition releases but what's the point, it's overpriced and you can already upscale the original games with ScummVM...

Not much has been changed, sure it will have an updated control system but they are still the same old games but with a graphics filter rather than an actual remastering.
