Great news – Rise Eterna 2 is coming soon on GOG!

Improving on the tactical RPG genre at the core of the first iteration, this game places you in the middle of an ongoing war between two families coveting the kingdom’s throne and one plotting her revenge.

Wishlist it now!
Good luck! I've learned that the "Fire Emblem" branch of the genre isn't for me, though. I find them too flat compared to the "FFT" style. I gave Rise Eterna a go and couldn't get into it, but I can see how someone could.

To be fair, Rise Eterna is not really a good representative of the Fire Emblem sub-genre, or of video games in general. While the sub-genre does indeed tend to have a propensity towards poorly designed games, especially in the QoL department, I think there are a few exceptions, which I at least have enjoyed, for example:
- Banner of the Maid (excellent, despite the cleavage)
- Dark Deity (very good)
- Symphony of War: The Nephilim Saga (very good).

P.S. Dark Deity is currently free for Amazon Prime subscribers.
The first game wasn't great or horrible. This follow up looks better and it seems they took some of the criticism to heart and learned a few more things.

I'm willing to give it a shot.

I second Symphony of War. I'd say that I like its system even more than Fire Emblem itself
