I think this will be one of the few cases I might actually buy the game on release.

I've always imagined Operencia as a land where operenci (feathered creatures/species e.g. avians) reside. Since it's made by a Hungarian studio - our neighbour, maybe they found the word interesting and named their game like that.

I find it cool and glad to see epic's exclusivity loosening its grip at long last.

This one seems really nice, grid-turn based dungeon crawler? Hell yes.

Although to be honest I never heard of the Operencia myth before.

I played this on epic. It's a fantastic game. I'll pick this up again here. The voice acting is top notch and I think the combat system is better than the eye of the beholder/grimrock system's dance battles (not that those weren't still great games). The setting was refreshingly different.

Operencia most likely comes from the German phrase "Ober Enns", meaning "above the Enns river". My ancestors apparently considered the lands beyond the Enns river as strange, magical places.

Does this game feature grid-based movement? I watched some gameplay footage and some looked like free movement (which makes me motion sick), but I read it has grid-based movement.

Is it possible to play it fully on a grid with 90° turning?

Nooo, my imagination is now ruined... operencia - the mystical land of avians shaped up wonderfully in my mind and it was so nice and magical indeed ;)

I will have to ask about this though, sounds interesting nonetheless. My only living Hungarian relative left is my grandma, so I hope she remember something about Operencia. Thanks for the backstory, I appreciate it.

I played this via GamePass, due to it being an EGS game, and I have to say it's a really good example of the classic dungeon crawler with a good story and enjoyable gameplay as well as advancement and plenty of secrets to hunt down while you're at it.

I asked them about a GOG release, back when it came out on EGS, and they sounded inclined to do so. Looks like they came through, and GOG didn't pull some weird curation thing on them, so this is definitely on my list.

Shame it's coming out right aroound the time Trails of Cold Steel 3 is, though, this would be a day one purcahse if I didn't have annew entry from my favorite series dropping at almost the same time. I played this on my laptop, and it didn't register my discrete graphics by default, so I was playing on the Intel card for a while without realizing it.

The animations look pretty bad nce you start running into spellcasters, and it bogs down when your turns are resolving, but it's still playable on a toaster even if it is slow and ugly.

There is no such thing as Operencia mythology etc., so it's no wonder nobody has heard of it :)
The reason for naming the game like this is probably that it sounds good in English too, plus lots of folk tales start with the above quoted phrase.

The etymology of the word is actually being debated, one possible origin is what feco91 said.

As far as I could see (so far) the game itself is a mix of folk tales, heroes and the like - so really looking forward to playing it soon :)

I remember ACG's review of this on YT and the game looks very cool. Sadly my PC can't run it so I will have to wait but this looks like a very fun and exciting game I will look forward to playing one day.
