Title: Lust from Beyond: M Edition
Genre: FPS survival horror
Demo: Lust from Beyond: M Edition Demo
Dont let the title or the themes scare you away.... this is a very lovecraftian story with heavy lean on the Cosmic/Mystical part of the lore.

I'm happy to see the toned down version but do hope there is an unrated patch for us. That said having this in the hands of a wider audience to showcase the teams talent is fantastic!

If you like lovecraftian games and lore, if you are not shy you will love this.... as someone who has 3 entire bookshelves dedicated to Cthulhu books and art this game works in every single way and is worth all your time, censored or not this is a great game/story... If you want hard core action and monsters get Succubus but if you want a story to twist your mind into all the colors of space BUY THIS!

cmclout: As an aside, who decided to call the censored version "M Edition"? M typically stands for "mature" (as in the ESRB's "M" rating for video games), which is an indicator that a game HAS mature content, not that mature content has been removed. This name looks like misleading/false advertising to me.
To help answer GOG has been getting heat on games like this recently so they are toned down for a reason, its just a demo listing anyways and not a full game... the M factors into the game in many ways, it makes a lot of sense and its rather ingenious to call it out like this. It fits the Mature rating and its not misleading at all, they explain everything about M edition, just go read the game page. The pubs did a great job explaining everything, with nothing deceptive going on at all.

Starkrun: having this in the hands of a wider audience
That is what the PR propaganda on the store page says, but that statement is very unlikely to match what actually will happen in reality.

Most likely, the actual reality will be that the vast majority of potential customers for this game will boycott it entirely because it is a censored garbage version.

In contrast, if they were to release the uncensored real version instead of this censored garbage version, then they would have had much more sales for this game and hence many more people would have seen it.

As it stands now, the only 'talent' from these devs that most people are going to notice is their 'talent' for butchering the crap out of their own game, before those same people realize that that's happened, complain about it, and then move on without ever buying or playing this game.

As for GOG "taking heat" for releasing AO games: they "take heat" about that only from people who never buy AO games.

By selling a censored version of this game to appease such people, GOG will take just as much heat, if not more so, from the other side, and even worse for GOG, that side is the side that actually would have bought the product, and hence generated revenue for GOG, had it been sold in its original, non-butchered form. But now, with it being butchered, they won't buy it, and GOG will make very little revenue from this game.

By the way, I'm not necessarily co-signing with your assertion that GOG are the ones who demanded to have the butchered version be sold here...but if they did it, like you are suggesting, then I'm commenting on that possibility.

is this censored? that makes no sense , it is like removing guns from a shooter game
I assume it is not on GOG that a censored version of this game released here. Because it would make zero sense, considering other AO games that have been released here lately.

As always, having a choice would of course be best.

Breja: Title: sounds like it's more porn.
Surprise: it's actually not.
Confession time: Some time ago I got the dev's previous game "Lust for Darkness" for pennies and I kinda hope that one shows up here. It's so hilariously demented that it teeters dangerously close to being a guilty pleasure. The X-rated content is, for the most part, actually quite tame and boring. There's actually a Steam achievment if you "spend 10 minutes at the cultists' orgy in the Yelvertons' Mansion", and only 4.8% of players have unlocked it (in comparison: almost 30% of players finished the game). I don't think there could be any better proof of how boring the "naughty bits" in Lust for Darkness are. However, what it lacked in titilation, it made up in silliness: Imagine Vivid Entertainment doing a porn parody of Lovecraft. Or imagine the famously aloof Lovecraft trying his hand at outerworldly erotica. There's some entertainment value to be found in the preposterousness of it all.

When this thing (Lust from Beyond) is available for $2.50ish, I might give it a shot, provided that gog gives people a way to upgrade to the AO version like they did with Succubus.

KasperHviid: In my youth, I had this idea of taking some ordinary porn movies and edit the sex scenes out. This sounds kinda like the same thing. Could be fun!
Probably not really "Safe for Work", but definitely funny: https://www.pornsfw.com/

tremere110: Has Gog laid off the people who write the blurbs on news posts? They seem kinda lacking lately.
is the person adding emojis to the newsletters still around? I unsubscribed from everything because of that. not that I'm missing much.

LinuxFire: Strange this censorship on GOG today with the latest games arrived here.
There will probably be additional content to download.
PS, what does it mean M ?

I hope there will be a Linux version.
But the developers already hope that Proton will do the work:

twillight: M is for Mature.
No mature person would want to look at boobs and such! That's just fact! Porn is not real, in reality people do it through blankets!
there are so-called adult gamer groups on steam, with rules like no swearing or screenshots of cleavage (let alone nudity), yet walls of emojis are fine. sounds more like kindergarten than mature or adult.

Well, they just lost a potential customer in me. :/ My hype dropped from 11/10 to 3/10 finding out it's censored. And that's not because I'm "only" keen on it if it has adult content - I would have felt the same way if there was never any explicit content in the original version. Censored versions just suck, and show a desire to sell out the original vision to people who never had an interest in the product to start with (those who wouldn't buy the R18+ version), and I loathe supporting that kind of behaviour.

If anything, I'd pick this up at a steep, steep discount, eventually. Unless GOG/the devs turn around and surprise us with the complete version on launch day. In which case, that would be a day 1 buy from me.

No swearing I can get if its without actual reason to swear atleast withut any good reason to as overusing swears and ther vulgar stuff is not mature and the like in general.. but otherwise I agree with your assessment
I was hoping this would come to GOG for a long time but I won't buy the censored version. I mean Subverse and Succubus are here so why not?
Perhaps there will be an AO version and Gog is too lazy to create a separate entry at the moment.
::looks at news blurb::
It's definitely a possibility.
The following is listed on the game page:

Changes in the M Edition

The original Lust from Beyond is an Adult Only experience. The M Edition is the same game tastefully tailored for a wider audience. M stands for the new Mature rating, but also for the many motifs of the Lust universe. The omnipresent Mystery, the iconic Masks, and overwhelming Madness.

The M Edition contains the following changes from the Adult Only edition:

Nudity has been covered by outfits appropriate to the themes and setting.
Some scenes have been rearranged to keep their meaning but reduce the explicit factor.
Some animations, scene framing and models have been changed to meet the Mature rating requirements.

LUST FROM BEYOND: M EDITION contains violence, blood, mild nudity and erotic themes.

Bigs: So do we get the option of getting the original version here?
They'll probably add a free patch to uncensor for gog users like Madmind did for Succubus.

It's not a good sign when a trailer that short needs to recycle the same visual sequence twice.
Lovecraft and porn ? F... yeah, but not a censored version !

I also want to know more about the sexual life of cultists, for educational purpose.
