leebo666: This looks very much like a new entry into what I've named the 'Salt and Sanctuary' category of games.
Simply put - 2D Dark Souls gameplay meets Metroidvania-styled maps, for the most part.
I use that description because Salt & Sanctuary was the first game of this style to release, and it proudly displayed its roots. So much so that the developers included a note you find very early in the game which stated how excited they were for Dark Souls 3.
I watched the GDC presentation the creators gave, and its a husband and wife team. They really hit it big with Salt & Sanctuary. This terrific little niche genre of games has really taken off since then; my most recent purchase of such a game was 'Morbid, The Seven Acolytes,' which uses amazing pixel art, ridiculously excessive violence and gore, along with buckets and buckets of virtual blood to make it stand out among the crowd.
It's also another one of those games that was just 'meh' until the 2.0 patch, but the developers did listen to complaints, and fairly well addressed all of them, and I'd give it a 7.5 for a rating.
No, it's no Salt & Sanctuary, but I've yet to come across another game in this new-ish genre that does.
If Grime offers tons of character builds, infinite farming and leveling up, cool, memorable, intertwined maps (hopefully with a central hub to chill in and prep for your next run) featuring vastly different biomes (not just dark caves and dreary dungeons, please!) to explore, and lots of interesting 'side stuff' to do, like fishing, building up your hub chill spot, NPC's of all kinds to interact with, collecting and crafting....
Well, that'd be awesome.
it DOES have a cool look, so here's hoping!
Vigil: The Longest Night is a love letter to Salt & Sanctuary (even includes a small cross-over) and Bloodborne.
"Morbid" gave me strong Blood Omen vibes, more than anything.
