Strategy is best served cold.

Frozen Synapse 2 is coming soon, DRM-free to GOG.com.
The little green dudes return! Together with those pesky red dudes. With them, they bring the astonishingly addictive turn-based tactics, this time applied to an open city with grand strategy maneuvers for you to pursue. Shady deals, ruthless politics, and powerful people control Markov Geist and it's up to you to figure out the best way to navigate its neon-lit streets. With more objects and units added to the fray, plus a tricky A.I. that tries to outplay you at every turn, this is the sequel your green dudes deserve.

Glad to see this will be released on GOG as well.
A question for the knowledgeable:

So this game is something a bit like Syndicate/Satellite Reign? Maybe building bases like X-COM: Ufo Defense? Or it is something very different? There is a campaign made up of missions or there is a map where time flows and things happen?
Will this not have achievements? I'd like to get this when it comes out eventually, but not if it's lacking achievements. I suspect I'm in the minority here though.

Even though the page doesn't list them, it's possible it still could... I've seen TBA games here only show a few features in the store listing, but then when they launched, there were more than initially listed... not saying this one WILL, but you really won't know for sure till the actual page goes live on launch
Frozen Synapse was awesome. The gameplay was really superb, so it was only really let down by bugs (but it had a lengthy support period, and a great many of them were squashed over that time).

This sequel has so much potential. If they've improved on the original gameplay, and the code is solid, it will be outstanding.

Conceptionally, it's close to Syndicate or X-COM: Apocalypse, various factions vying for control over a city with cyberpunkish background elements.

Core gameplay, however, is closer to door kickers, you and your opponent/AI plan moves 5 seconds in advance, which are executed simultaneously...it's a weird mix somewhere between pausable real-time and turn based. If I read the previews correctly, you have control over your force composition and missions are generated dynamically on the fly, with a grand strategy style strategical overhead to the tactical combat.

The concept is intriguing, and the tactical battles of the first game were pretty awesome, so I'll wait for some reviews and then decide if the execution is worth the asking price.
