My_Acc-My_Fortress: Unfortunately, Remaster (?Remake?) is not made by the same Ukrainian Team that was behind the original game development and it will not receive any money if users will buy Remaster. For that reason, I do not recommend buying Chasm The Rift Remaster in any digital store.
I beg to differ!
The original studio, "Action Forms", is DEFUNCT since 2011. They are not going to get any money regardless which version you buy.
The remaster is the only reason, you can enjoy the game at all. That it wasn't made by the same studio should be clear, given that the original developers have moved on.
SNEG, the new studio, was founded by former GOG employees. Made in Poland, by people who understand true classics. I have no quarrel with that. To call them "Russian" is nothing short of slander.
Besides: Developers sign away their copyrights to the titles they create when they sign the employment contract. And, in this case, not even the studio ever owned the rights to the game in the first place. They instead sold those rights to a publisher. So, with your purchases, you support whoever the current copyright holders and their financial investors are--not the developers, and not the studio. Regardless of which version of the game you buy.
I don't understand why people are making a fuss. Do folks not understand what the word "capital" in "capitalism" stands for? This is how the industry works, and has worked for decades. Copyrights are bought and sold. You can't sell your cake and eat it too. How is this a reason for surprise, let alone outrage?
If you, regardless, still absolutely insist on giving your money to the former developers. You still can, however. From what I understand, at least some of them have formed a new company based in Cyprus called "Tatem Games" focussing on "free" mobile games. Be warned though, the company is notorious for "games" that dump 5 minutes of ads on you for every 30 seconds of gameplay. If you want to give them your money, then better warm up your credit card for those sweet in-app purchases. Enjoy!
Personally, however, I'm grateful SNEG is bringing us back some classic titles that would otherwise have been lost to the passing of time.
